Resident Evil in d20m

Well, IIRC in the movie Rains takes five or six bites; she is definitely infected, and the antidote does not work for her. Does she actually die somehow, or does she just turn before dying?

And I'd definitely suggest giving the zombies a special bite attack on a successful grapple. However, I don't think they should have improved grab; that makes the bites too common.

Howsabout this: like the hydra, you can only damage a zombie by declaring an attack against its head. Its listed Def applies only to such attacks; otherwise, forget it. That way, you can still have them immune to criticals, but still represent the PCs as blowing their heads off.

Defintly no improved grapple. I also think it should be noted in the stats for them to use the aid other action. These things would also almost always go for the grapple mostly because they are not so much intersted in killing a person as eating them, if that makes any sense.

But in the game you can kill them just by shooting them a couple of times. The head is not specific. I don't have the book with me but are undead immune to massive damage?

Or what you can do is have a one time only fortitude save for the zombie. If dropped to zero hp or below, they get a fort save DC of say 15. If successful, they regenerate half their hit points (rounded down) and next round get back up. This gives the idea of shooting them, thinking they're dead dead, and then they get back up. Like in the game. Waddaya think?

Just wanted to clear some stuff up:

Bagpuss, the character you're referring to who becomes a zombie after being bitten (but never dies between then and turning) is an African-American cop named Marvin Branagh, from Resident Evil 2.

In every adaption of the game I've seen, from the movie (which I hated) to the novels to the comics, simply being injured by an infected creature was enough to infect you with whatever disease turned you. The main characters in those adaptions were simply never injured by those monsters...or at least not directly, so they never got infected. Also, iirc, in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Jill Valentine gets hit by the Nemesis, and is infected with the T-virus just from that injury.

As a slight alternative, you could go with the idea that once infected, virus-creatures are only contagious for a short period thereafter, and after that being injured by them does not spread the disease.

To give a mild teaser, the article I wrote for EN Mag (EN World Player's Journal) very briefly touches on something similar to what's being discussed here...i.e. that the T-virus zombies are still living creatures, and thus don't get undead benefits. It's nothing major, but if you know what you're looking for, its there (I actually had Resident Evil in mind when doing that part of the article). Here's hoping that bit doesn't get edited out! :D

It will be in either issue 1 (hopefully) or issue 2 of EN Mag.

Actually, the lead character get munched on by zombies quite frequently, yet do not appear infected. Of course, that may simply be a DEM (Deus Ex Machina) for gameplay reasons.

It almost certainly was DEM. I pointed out the way the other mediums handled it because the game isn't quite trustworthy here; there's no way they'd expect the players to get through the entire game without taking a hit, so they'd have to lower the threat level.

Wow, Alzrius. I look forward to your article with pregnant anticipation. I will probably take the route of saying that the virus is only infectious for a short time, because otherwise my players will more than likely be screwed. If I wanted to kill characters left and right I'd use Call of Cthulhu for the game :D
