Resist Energy, Mass - Encounter Problem

Frostburn also has the Piercing Cold feat. IIRC it allows caster to ignore half of a target's cold resistance. Also the Frost Mage PrC allows you to ignore resist completely. A good class for a boss-type caster.

Sandstorm has the fire version of the feat I believe.

I like the police dog idea. Have the giant and the hellhounds each blow a feat for a teamwork bonus, with the giant being the leader. At the star of each turn, have each hellhound that is grappling one person deal all their fire damage as if from one source. At only D6 each, it still may not be enough. You might treat their bite as flaming burst and give them augmented critical.

You might also have fewer, but advanced or templated hellhounds, each doing 2D6 or 3D6 damage each.

I'm a bit surprised that no one else has mentioned this=> Resist Energy, Mass is just the wrong level. Compare it to any other Mass spell, or indeed any other similarly powered defensive spell.

Resist Energy is 2nd level.

A Mass version should be 3 levels higher, at least.
Agreed. That's what I did. My specific comments: "3rd-level for a mass version of resist energy? Were they joking? For 3rd-level, when will you NOT prepare this spell multiple times?!"

After many levels of playtesting it as a 5th level spell, I still think it's too good, probably because it scales so well. With a party of 3 primary casters, they almost always have resistance to most forms of energy. And they all have good saves, so they rarely take energy damage (unless I catch them by surprise). Markn makes a good point on this spell.
