Resist Energy, Mass

Alpha Polaris

First Post
This spell appears in the Complete Arcane as a cleric 3, druid 3, sorc/wiz 4, wu jen 4. Does anyone else finds this a bit too low ? I find it odd that it's just 1 level above resist energy for cleric, and that wu jen, elemental specialists, get it one level later.

I dont know about it being to low, but it does get scrolled several times inbetween adventures and pretty much always makes it on to the druids spell list for the day.

Its simply a top tier spell at level 3 for the divine guys, especially if it can be swapped out for a Cure or SNA.

I feel spell is two low. Hell, I think the spell is too good in general. By the time one outgrows the normal version, it is about time to buy energy protectant magic items.

5th is better for all those who recieve this spell, if at all.

I agree that 3rd level is too, and possibly 4th as well. Instant resistances for the whole party tend to cripple many encounters. Sure, it's possible to do the same thing with preparation and normal spells. But the mass version can shut down foes even if the group is going in cold.

That's what I was thinking, even though I still prefer Dispel Magic as a clr 3 spell. Will try to stick that one on my spell list if I suspect I will be facing enregy-based opponents, next time.

I think all mass spells should be +3 levels. It was so much the case in 3.0e that we actually created a 'mass spell' metamagic at +3 levels. 3.5e muddied the water a little by the placing of mass bulls strength etc, and some wacky placings have appeared in other supplements (such as the subject of this thread!)
