Resizing Magic Weapons (aka the Telescoping Sword)

I think 3.5 weapon sizes are, overall, a good idea, as they allow small and large characters to use some of the more flashy weapons (like Spiked Chain, for example) without worrying about whether or not size is an issue.

However, I really dislike the -2 for using an improperly sized weapon.

Has anyone tried using the system without the penalties?

The real question, though, isn't "should magic weapons resize?", but "Why does it make any more or less sense that magic weapons resize than that magic armor (rings, boots, whatever) resizes?"

IIRC, they took that rule out.

All items are now sized--the rules for randomly determining what size are printed once, in the magic items chapter of the new DMG.

I've always assumed that when they say magic armor "resizes itself" to mean that it adjusts it's fit. After all a Half Orc Barabarian will definatly wear bigger armor than the smallish elven fighter, even though they are technically the same size class. Not to mention the difference required in male and female armor. I never considered it to adjust from fire giant size to halfling size.

I'll have to go back and double check my 3.5e dmg.
