ressurect or die?

I know. Bad spelling serves as such a turn-off to many players.

OOOOOOooooooOOOOh!!! BURN!!! That one hurt man!!! But the thing with ressurecting and having them do whatever the guy wants is that it discorages them to ressurect in the futer. I would do it if it were for a level 15 rouge, or somthing, but never for a first level fighter.

Well, I think the system kills characters with unrealistic & non-genre-appropriate frequency, esp at higher levels. Resurrection is a way around that, though as GM I prefer to use a Fate Points system.

One thing that resurrecting does, is change the world. Think about it, the population is now growing twice as fast, murder trials are no longer needed, hestory is now out of the questions and into the pure facts, so much of the world we know now would change so dramatically.

Depends on the cost (i.e., material components) of resurrection and how many people are capable of casting it. If you go by the PBH raise dead and resurrection spells, it won't happen often.

Besides, Divination magic is often more handy for murder trials anyway as you often need only a less powerful (i.e., lower-level) spell than resurrection.

Depends on the campaign.

If it's a standard high-magic campaign like Greyhawk or Forgotten Realms, sure.

Black Company and others, no.

D&D has become more like a video game and to me, I believe some of that is reflected in the leahtlity of high powered combat where a death or two isn't that uncommon.

How would the population grow twice as fast?

1. The spells aren't low level.

2. Rich nobles would be able to afford it.

3. Body still needed for raise dead. (easy enough to take care of in certain cases.)

4. Old age still a viable threat.

5. Murder trials not needed? Why? Is death no longer painful?

I allow resurrection in D&D, but I limit it to one chance to come back to life. If someone casts the right spell, you can emerge from the jaws of death once. If it happens again, your only tool to remain on the material plain is undeath in one form or another.
