Cite, please? I'm not aware of this being in any version of the core rules. If it were that easy, no-one would be arguing.

I beieve there's a spell in DotF that allows Outsiders to be raised/resurrected... but I'd still allow Raise Dead and so forth to work on 10th level Acolytes of the Skin/Elemental Savants/etc., since they were mortal humans (or dwarves or elves or whatever) when they started out (though the spell used might need an extra material component/divine focus, like a very large bonfire to raise/resurrect an elmental/fire savant)...

This contradicts the latest FAQ.

On pg 43 of the document, you find that:

I just noticed that my Monster Manual says slain outsiders cannot be raised or resurrected by anything short of a wish or miracle spell. However, amount the various spell descriptions only the raise dead spell has specific prohibitions on which types of creatures it can be used upon.
....

Constructs, outsiders, and elementals cannot be raised or resurrected. Undead cannot be raised, but the can be resurrected if they're willing to return to life. The words "any deceased creature" in the resurrection and true resurrection spell descriptions are incorrect. High level monks can be raised or resurrected, however. They get an exception because they start life as mortals.

I'm not sure exactly what the Monster Manual says, so I can't quote that. It seems that the sage believes that the MM text overrides the PHB text.

I'll have to see if I can't find someone with Manual of the Planes, so I can look up the spell to bring extraplaner creatures back. Sounds like that is the best place to look.
