Retry on open locks?

yep - they DID hide that retry text on open locks.

the bottom line is that if the door is trapped - opening it WILL set off the trap connected to the door. You have to disarm the trap and then unlock the door.

Comments:

(1) The 'retry' text on open locks isn't hidden-it's just there as an example. If you read the paragraph above, the first paragraph in the Retries section, it makes it clear that the default situation with skill checks is that retries are allowed. A given skill will have a 'retry' line only if retries are not allowed, or are limited somehow.

(2) Just to clarify your second paragraph: if a successful Disable Device check has not been made, the trap will be set off whenever the condition for the trap has been met. If it is 'touch' activated (or somesuch), then the trap will go off whether the Open Locks check is successful or unsuccessful. If it is only activated when the locked portal is opened, on the other hand, it may only go off after a successful Open Locks check! (Hate when that happens. :) )

Yep, that happened last session. The rogue rolled a 1 on his Search for Traps roll, then unlocked the trapped item, and got hit by the Slay Living Greater Glyph of Warding. Nasty.

They used a Summoned creature to open the other one. Scaredy Cats. ;)
