This is true!
Game is tonight. The commander who secretly evil is assigning the PCs (plus a NPC, played by Alomir's teenaged son) into one squad and all the other Grey Guard members into the other squad. Oddly, all the soldiers sent on this mission are extremely nice, good and honorable. "The best of the best", you'd call it -- unless you were the evil commander, in which case you'd call it "sending the sheep off to get culled."
I'm letting Logan, Alomir's character, determine the strike plan. If he doesn't have one, I'll have the officer suggest that his group hit hard, first, while the second group stays out of range for a few rounds before it swaps in. "That way area attacks won't hit everyone." Uh huh.
Some of the corpses have been loaded with alchemist's fire, to be set off when Toiva's corpse is moved or fire spells go off. Some of the corpses have been soaked with necrotic blood from the beholder, animating them as immobilizing devices. Chains with no corpses on them will drop a chunk of ceiling on a PC. And the tide is rushing in and out of the wells in a burst 3, in and out: push two, pause, pull 2, pause.
The stone roof of the tunnel has also been soaked in necrotic blood, weakening it. So the plan is:
Team 1 enters the lair.
Beholder collapses ceiling and takes out team 2.
Beholder travels through the water pipes to take out team 1.
Wish me luck!
