I also went with Refuse, because I get no fun from that sort of adventure. It's completely personal, but it also isn't likely to be swayed by promises that "You'll like it if you try it." I just get bored stupid having to do painfully slow, meticulous, and unforgiving things. It's the same reason I don't build complex model kits. And just like I recognize that other people do find it fun, I hope they'll recognize that I don't and understand when I say I'd rather draw a half dozen cards from a Deck of Many Things than go near an adventure like RttToH.

Indeed. The DMs who would arbitrarily decide "You can't do that, you're a good guy" have (perhaps intentionally) abandoned the 1978 game of AD&D and moved on to DM something different. Such DMs would be well advised not to attempt running a module published in 1978; they ought to go run something modern.
