Return to theTomb of Horrors

James McMurray,

Excellent recounting of the battle at the necromancer's academy! What a struggle! It must have looked like hell itself when Drake strode through the whirling wall of blades on purpose. Wow. I might have thrown in a non-canon spontaneous Will save just to see if everyone could keep their lunch on that one (say, maybe that's not a bad idea for the future, when a campaign really gets deep into the horrors of the high level ... hmmm ...). I mean, that's straight out of a Clive Barker novel or something.

At any rate, it sounds like a ripping good game. I don't envy the team the Assault-On-The-City redux. Let us know how the rest of it goes.

"That's gotta be some module."

Unfortunately, noone even saw it. :( They put teh barrier up and then moved out of sight. All they saw was that some guy came out ot that hall unscathed (he cast heal after walking through it). Of course, that had an effect as well.

Ah ... I see.

Still ... it was inspirational (and horrifying) to consider. Sounds like a highly-adrenalized run. Let us know what the final character body count is!

Have fun!

Don't worry, I plan on updating everyone at least once a week. I've got to have you all to help me formukate strategies for the opposition after all (except the traps in the Tomb itself, I think I can handle those.

On a side note: I saw the conversion of it already done, but had to beef somet hings up a bit. For instance, the poison, although not save or die, is "distilled negative planar essence" and deals more damage at a higher DC. I also added an unhallow (dispel magic) effect to the entire area in order to remove the problems inherent with parties that can muster so many defenses that they'll never get nicked if they don't have to save any spells for offense.

On a side-side note: Who's got ideas on how to best convert the Dark Intrusion's effects? I've been using it as just added Turn Resistance so far, with a percent chance of rising as a zombie when you die.

On yet another note: I'll make a new thread for academy defenses. I've got some fairly decent tactics outlined already, but could use some more ideas on what a group of mostly low-level, but with three high-level spell casters could do to beef up their school of the black arts if they knew they were coming under attack soon.

Where might I find conversion for this? I plan on running it for some players in a month or so. Anyone know a place I can DL it? I didn't see it int he Conversion Library. Or perhaps have one they can E-mail me?

Thanks in advance,

James--sounds like you run a pretty tight campaign over there--I should be asking for conversion advice from YOU instead of the other way around! After this storyhour of sorts, I think I'm going to have to really beef up the way I'm running the campaign--my PCs are just blowing through Moilan Zombies left and right, and they got lucky enough to sneak into the academy through a necromancer who fell for the party fighter...

but i should sleeep.....

DarkCrisis: The conversion can be found at the conversion library, about 3/4 of the way down the adventures list. Its only for the original tomb thoughm not the entire RttToH.

Trevalon MoonLeirion: Nah, I'm no master at conversion or anything. Heck, I even made one of the Instructors at the academy a cleric and another a Penumbral Lord because I thought I'd get bored with too many necromancers. :)

As for mowing through Moilian Zombies, what level is your party? If they're over the CR, they should be mowing through them. Also, its ok to sneak into the academy. Heck, that's how the party is supposed to do it. I've just got a group of 3 Lawful goods (soon to be four) and the paladin is too "honorable" to think about removing his holy symbols or hiding them. That'll change quick. :)
