There are at least a dozen named NPCs in the 10 towns like that. Could have been anybody. ;)

2) Another of Drizzt's kin come to the surface to do good, but accidentally set her own hair on fire and got kidnapped (at the same time) and is otherwise having a real bad day.

Of course! Because as everyone knows, fire genasi flock to Icewind Dale to bask in its warmth.

Disguise self could work too.
 

One issue I have with that part of the module, though, is that the campaign guide puts the valley's population at about 80, including the dwarves in Baerick's camp. That's not a lot, and yet the dwarf zombies can potentially be limitless. Where are they all coming from?

From the crypts. You could say the black ice is animating the buried dead, and there could be hundreds of Dwarves buried in the area.

Consider it done. Should the PCs face the zombies, I'll describe some of them as looking noticeably less "fresh" than some of the others.
