Review: Advanced Players Manual (Long)

I remember Path Magic as a name, but none of the details. I think that Arcane book is the only one I'm missing from that edition. Like Education, al you need in D&D is a new name and everything old is new again!

There were different paths that had a theme...you had to learn the lowest level spell before the higher one, but I think it was easier to research spells of your path...something like that, we never actually used it in our games

so, are you actually from a town called normal??

Hey Crothy, thanks for the review! Got a question you might could answer (or anyone more involved with the book). I'm looking to set up a racial level system much like AU has for its races as does Unearthed Arcana. The races section in the Advanced Players Manual, does it provide points values for racial abilities, modifiers, etc. so I could easily mix and match to create an ECL 0 race, then stack on for racial levels? It sounds like it has what I need, but wanted to get your take.

In essence, I want to make things like an ECL 0 Tiefling race (weaker than the existing variant), with three racial levels the players can choose to take.

Ya, I think it can do that quite well. It also covers racial HD which can be made into levels like you want though the books does not cover that at all.

Path magic I think was orginally in a Dragon magazine...at the end of second edition when they did those books that gathered everything, they did a series on arcane magic and it was also in there. It has been years since I looked at any of that stuff.

#216. THe one with the picture of the "scotch" tape on the front.

What about the commuity rules mentioned in this thread:

http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=170792

I LOVE path magic (it make so much more sense to me)- how many pages are devoted to its spell list?

I wasn't going to buy this book, but now I am not sure. 17 bucks for path magic is a lot.

That is Advanced Players Guide by Sword and Sorcery, similar name to the Advanced Players Manual I know and I'm sure it will cause a lot of confusion.

Incedentially, I reviewed the Advanced Players Guide here:

Oh crap. Sorry about that.

So how many pages are devoted to the Eldritch Weaver's spell lists?

no big deal people are confusing the name if not the books on the Green Ronin board

the class itself is about 4 pages and the list of their threads is about 30 pages
