Review Project take two

How did it die? it seemed to have a completed a prodigious amount of work in a short time.

No long term follow up.

By putting the subject in the general area, it made sure that people who wanted to do it would be known and people who are known aren't going to ask for more than they can handle. A few new PDF reviewers might come from this but consistency is one of the keys of doing reviews. I'm not putting anyone down, but anyone can do one review a month, every two months, etc... The level of volumne Corithian is dealing with would require two-three reviews probably a month if not more.

Perhaps I'm wrong and we'll still see more reviews of this type and hopefully it'll encourage people to try out other books. For example, Buzz feels that Goodman's stragety guide for wizards should be 4-5 stars, but I don't see a review of it by him. Easy to throw out a sentence or three, more difficult to put thoughts on why it should be that rating into a coherent review.

Lack of interest I guess. It really hasn't generated a review in a few weeks and fewer and fewer people just would come back asking to review a second, third or even fourth product. It was basically dimished returns week after week. It did a great job at the beginning, but that was then and now it isn't doing anything.

Sorry! That would be me. I'm on my 4th review but I changed jobs two weeks ago which killed my free time. It's in the qeue and half finished. Maybe in a week or two.

(Don't think of it as a failure either Crothian. 127 reviews is a nice surge.)

Well, the review prodject is pretty much dead. It did okay but it just was not able to sustain itself. I did the comp copy you sent me and added to the list of things I plan on reviewing.

Sorry to hear that the project fizzled. Still, it generated lots of reviews while it was running, so it was pretty successful in that respect. Thanks for organizing it.

Once I have some spare money again
(After I buy a car to replace the one that was submerged in 4 feet of water, while parked in front of my house  )
Then I will be Buying one of the copies of "Monster Geographica: Forest" they have at my FLGS, and then I will start working on a review.

While it was nice receiving PDF's for free, it was somewhat "luck of the draw". It was tough for me to review something that did not fit my interests. (I did write a review for each PDF I received from Crothian.)

On the other hand, I did get a chance to sample a couple of publishers that had not tried before this started, and even the worst of them had something to offer.

I requested in this thread that people mention what they like and don't like. I tried to match PDFs with interests when people mentioned them. I know it can be hard to reveiew things you are not as interested in and I thank you for being able to do so.

Oh, I wouldn't call this dead. I'm still seeing some of the same names pop up with reviews that began with this project. I'll bet that as we approach Winter in the northern hemisphere and indoor activities take priority we'll see a bit more activity, too. You may not be sending out as many review copies but many of the reviewers are still in action. Keep up the good work and keep me busy posting news of reviews! :)

I figure as long as there is one person out there that wants to do this, I'm keeping the store open. Looking back tonight was the first time in 13 days that a PDF had been handed out. So, we'll call it slow but I still want to generate reviews if people want to write them.

I'd like to try my hand at a review, I don't have any earlier work to point back at though. It seemed to me from Crothian's post that you were supposed to have a couple of reviews done already before participating in this project, or was I reading it wrong?

Pick something out of your own collection and go right ahead and review it. Then maybe do another. Then drop back in here and post the links. I think he's just trying to avoid people snagging stuff for free who might not really plan to do any reviews. The best way to avoid that is to recruit folks who you can see have actually done at least a couple of reviews. Pick out a couple of things that you particularly like that you already have and have played a bit. Those are usually easier to get rolling on. Maybe even do a review on each of the three core rule books for D&D?
