One post, yes. I just found this place. Obviously I should've stuck with my usual sites.
Bye bye.

EDIT: Okay. That was snarky. Now I'll post something actually useful. To the original poster:

This place has a reviews section. At the very least, you might have glanced at it to see what this community feels is a decent style for reviews.

Every community is different, and if you want them to listen, post it in the manner they respond well to.

Making your very first post be an incredibly flowery, one-sided gushing of fanboy luvin' clearly didn't score points here. Those factors combined with the lack of a link... Well, I sure won't apologize for taking it the way I took it, to him or anyone else, and I don't think the comment about it being a bad commercial at that (forget who said it) was not unreasonable. Sorry to those who disagree, and you surely have a right to do so.

Coming back and correcting your error while insulting the people who called you on it makes you few allies. A simple "Oops, sorry I was very excited about this product I just picked up. Here's the link, enjoy" would have addressed every issue and won a bunch of brownie points. Insulting the boards as a whole because you disagree with one or two posters won't.

Good luck on those other, more understanding boards. I am sure, based on your post, that they respond better to perceived spam and welcome it with open arms. More power to 'em.

Hope this helps, but if not, I don't think I'll lose sleep over it.

What happened to a little community feeling and at least attempt to find out if he was a moron commercial or someone really new? Are you too jaded to tell him he posted his review in the wrong spot to have whatever effect he was aiming for? At least he didn't spam 5000 lines of links in his signature line so he could tell us how great he was, or something equally duncical.

Yeah, but there's more setting information in your .sig than in both of his posts combined.

Look, I don't mind posts like this and I'll check out the link because I'm a setting junkie. But it looks like the guy is friend or relative of someone who wrote/published the book. Nothing wrong with that either (as long as you give disclosure), however letting the reader know some basic facts would be nice. I mean, I don't know if there are elves, if the world in in jeapordy, or anything. Cripes, I don't even know if it's fantasy or sci-fi!
