Don;t forget the comment section of the reviews. If you see a review posted by someone with simliar tastes, ask them how this book compaires with other books of the same theme.

That's a very good idea.

I used to have difficulty loging in to the comment section before the migration so I shied away from using the feature.

Maybe I'll do that. :)

So, who which reveiwers share your gaming style?

Well, it depends on the type of product (rules manual, adventure, or gaming accessory). Usually I like a reviewer for one type of product, but may or may not share similar tastes for the other types. So I guess I like pieces of lots of reviewers. :)

Just wanted to stop in and let everyone know that I really appreciate all the suggestions and discussion.

And now, back to your regularily scheduled Crothian-DaveMage debate. :D

come on, name names. We have delicate egos and we need to be praised and worshiped. :D

Seriously, I like all of the EN World staff reviewers. You guys seem to put a lot of effort into your reviews and it's appreciated.

*insert "we're not worthy" emoticon here*

;)

If En eolrd wasn't worthy, we'd have moved on. Seriously, most of us are just gaming geeks with too much to say.

It can be a lot of effort. Some just write themselves, like my Thieves World review. That was easy. But then there are the ones that are hard like Game of Thrones, I'm still reading the mammoth book but I can tell its not going to be easy. Its a 5 star book easily, but there is a lot to cover and I'm not used to reviewing 500pg books. ;)

Which is the best book about water adventures? Is it Stormwrack from WotC? Is it The Deep from MEG? Is it Into the Blue from Bastion? Is it Seafarer's Handbook from FFG? Is it Dead Man's Chest from Necromancer? Something else? I'd love to know what book (or combination of books, or parts of books) that reviewers use for their own gaming experience. And if they never use any sea books, I'd like to know that too.
See, that is where it becomes problematic and even more subjective. My needs for an underwater book are likely to be different than yours and even more different than Crothian's. Everyone's campaign is vastly different. So where I may appreciate Into the Blue more for its creature diversity and use for coastal areas, you may have a greater need for a book with underwater combat rules such as Seafarer's Handbook. If I recommend the book I like over what your needs are, then you are likely to make a judgment that I don't know what I am talking about.

A reviewer may certainly point out things he likes or dislikes. For example, in the reviews on my site, our reviews point out specific areas that both excel and are problematic in the Critical Hit and Critical Miss sections. This allows the reviewer to highlight what he feels is important without necessarily dragging down the rest of the review. It works pretty well for what we do. :)
