I agree totally. The little blurb about it being impossible to balance everything was true, but a total cop-out. D20 has mechanics that makes it a lot easier to get to a middle ground as opposed to just letting everything fly.

As I said, it didn't ruin the rest of the book for me, but it is a pretty big flaw, IMO, and it does interfere with one of the main things I wanted to use the book for. (Even if I had no intention of using some of the material outside of Talislanta, however, they still should have included said info. Some people do care about balance, and the tools exist in the system.)

You're preaching to the chior, brother. I had no intention of running astraight Talislanta game, so now I have to do a little legwork (LA's aren't that tough for me, but they are tricky and I may get off by a point or two). It's annoying, but all in all I'm just happy to have the material. I just hope that Morrigan listens and adds some errata adding LA's back in or at least trys an attempt at balance in (hopefully) future releases.

I've always been curious about Talislantia, but this philosophy coupled with editing errors is more than enough for me to pass this one by. Bring on Tekumel d20!

Thanks for all the info and opinions folks. I'm a bit hesitant about Tal20 now. I was primarily hoping to be able to plug their races into my homebrew. I am also interested in Talislanta for the sake of Talislanta, so perhaps I should look at the 4th ed of their system.

Can't wait for Tekumel D20 either (again, mostly for academic reasons). I remember seeing at one time that Mearls was going to be involved with Tekumel D20, anyone know if that is still the case? I'll go ask at GOO, since that would be the non-lazy thing to do.
