Favored class is Bard.

Why bard, I wonder? Bards and gnomes have nothing to do with each other. It seems like purely a mechanical decision to me. Bards are trying to get a facelift, gnomes need a new favored class because illusionist is too limited...

I really don't like how 3e has handled the gnome archetype. It looks like 3.5e will be even worse.

I would argue that something like favored class could be tied to culture more easily than to race. For example, a culture reflects various beliefs and practices.

So, I would not have a problem with gnomes from one culture having a preferred class of illusionist and another with a preferred class of bard. This might also lead to some amusing role playing when characters of each gnomish culture show up somewhere. This would also help explain some of the differences between various editions. (One of the amusing problems with running an ongoing campaign world is working with different editions.)

In the previous Revision Spotlight, the Osyluth are renamed to Bone Devils... And in this one, the Gnomes are renamed to Osyluthy. Frankly, I'm less and less interested in 3.5...

I can understand the move behind making their cantrips Spell-Like Abilities. It's more streamlined, since absolutely no other creature cast spells (unless having "virtual levels" in a spellcasting class, like dragons who are virtual sorcerers). However, I liked the fact that all gnomes were somehow apprentice-level wizard. That change, I won't adopt.

Favored Class: Bard. Bards have always been the rogue/wizard hybrid class, and since gnomes had that stereotype of being trickster mages, it somewhat fit. But frankly, if they had to change gnome's favored class totally, I would have prefered Druid. I don't like that change, especialy given that it will screw multiclassed gnomes (bang!, your rogue 3/illusionist 5/arcane trickster just got 20% XP penalty... Unless you want to exchange your illusionist levels to bard levels, maybe ?). That change too, I won't adopt, or at least not totally -- illusionist will stay a favored class of gnomes.

Weapon Familiarity, and Illusion DC +1; these two I like.

Because of this? It's a favored multiclass...if you don't like it, change it...

If you want to give Gnome Wizard as a multi, do it up...they still make better illusionists than others, because of that DC adjustment...

It's a pun, referring to "I love Lucy" and osyluths. Pretty funny, actually.

I love the changes. This fits my exact image of a gnome. Of course, this may be because the first 3e gnome I DMed was a gnome bard and very spectacular.

I wonder if that will mean major revisions for Wulf who's been working on Heroes of High Favor: Gnomes.

It doesn't help any that I only just received my publisher's version of the 3.5 revision, either...

I know a certain Bad Axe illustrator who is going to be VERY upset...
