Good post overall, but FYI this turn of phrase is derived from a term for Romani that is often considered derogatory, and its use to essentially mean “being ripped off” plays into negative stereotypes about them.
Huh. Never knew the etymology of that phrase. Learn sumpin' new everyday!

ha, I just sent Defcon 1 a message about this. I had no idea this was a slur until a few years ago, so information is good.
