when it says that u can hide in plain sight (at least I think it does), does that mean that if you are in the middle of a field, you just kinda go invisible, except without the "invisiblity" magic?

Well, I treat this like a real chameleon's ability. The character would have to go low in the field and then the magic would allow him to look like the field.

thats what I was thinking, Invisibility without the weaknesses would be so fun though

(because I mean, who really has enough spot to find a person with maxed out hide, a pretty high dex, and this ring)

Someone with a maxed out spot, high wisdom, and magical bonus to aid spot.

My Ranger has maxed spot and 16 wisdom. I haved created a spot item yet, but I do have Craft Wondrous Items feat.

Well also the way Chameleons work ( the lizard) you would take on the coloring & texture of the grass, so you would be visible as a large humanoid shaped lump of grass (unless you crouch down of course), really, think about taking a Chameleon and tossing it in the air, or levitating it. Would it take on the aspect of the sky? not likely. So unless your against a surface taller than you, I would think you would maintain your shape, just the texture and color would alter kinda like a 3D character. So it wouldn't really be ideal in an open field (unless crouched down again). At least thats how I always treated it in games
