Sure, that would work.

Cool. I don't think it'll come up that often, but it's just good to know that I don't have to wait for the duration to expire to re-activate the effect.

I guess that also means that if the effect is dispelled, I can simply re-activate it on my next turn, as it's not a constant effect, and thus doesn't go ineffective for 1d4 rounds.

Correct - unless the enemy caster cast a targeted dispel magic at your ring. :)

Also good to know! Thanks!

Normally I'm able to interpret the rules fairly well. However, I must say that this 'Ring of Blinking' has been smewhat confusing for me. All your help has been very much appreciated.

and remember its still an open quesiton about whether or not a ring of blinking has a duration. There are a lot of items that make little to no sense if you have to continually reactivate them. In previous editions items like this were usually constant once activated. In 3.5 it hasn't been answered yet.

Me I do it case by case, and blinking falls into the duration category in my games.

Before you shoot yourself in the foot and asume a duration, ask your DM how he rules on this.

Yeah, I've been forwarding my DM my questions and the responses found in this thread, for his approval. He was surprised when I noted that according to the RAW, items like the 'Ring of Invisibility' require activation. We decided it made more sense that way, and so the same goes for the 'Ring of Blinking'. We've also decided to assume that the listing in the DMG for a Ring of Blinking's caster level as 7 was a mistake, and so the ring will have a caster level of 5 (as standards, and the formula for cost of the ring suggest). It's not a big deal in my book, but it makes sense when you look at the nearly 100% cost increase over formula cost for a Ring of Invisibility (according to formula, it should be 10,800gp, not the 20,000 listed - and so a premium on it must exist).
