Carefully. since the cost is close to a +2 weapon, following the weapon costing scheme might be reasonable.

+2 8,000 gp
+3 18,000 gp
+4 32,000 gp
+5 50,000 gp

The main problem with costing this force shield is that it has the +3 armor property "ghost touch" property built in for free and is unsunderable. Some folks don't think that should be a factor, others do.

You could just treat it like a standard shield, with an additional +2 or +3 on it to start it off, as its price is roughly equivalent to a +3 bonus.

Or what Frank said.

As an aside, Bracers of Armor can be enhanced just like normal armor, so, it's not an extreme stretch to enhance the ring like a shield. The bit about Bracers of Armor is in Arms and Equipment Guide, which is technically 3.0, never updated to 3.5 to my knowledge.

That might be a concern if ghost touch were not grotesquely overpriced.

That is your opinion on the matter. I feel most incoporeal fooes have a low enough attack bonus where the cost is not so bad for a dedicated suit. Espeacialy considering that +4 armor only costs as much as a +3 weapon. A +1 ghost touch full plate hit with a magic vestment is pretty much all one needs.

QFT. You get the special abilities on the armor/shields, then use spells to rack up the enhancement bonuses on the items. Standard Operating Procedure with a lot of the people I play with.

Remember though, that this item takes the Ring slot and the Shield slot...

So it is really a "2-slot" item if you want to use it. I had not even thought of the ghost touch ability, thank you for bringing that to my knowledge..

I figure you use want to use the "weapon guideline" as it matches the formulas if you do like this:

Bonus squared * 1000 (armors and shields) * 2(extra ability / inappropriate slot)
which comes down to: bonus squared * 2000? (just as with weapons)
Am i right?

Is it possible to balance out the ghost touch thing as a "side payment" ?

Does it take the shield slot, really? No.
Somebody could also have a shield, say a mithral buckler, give it a +1 enhancement bonus, then pile on all sorts of special qualities. He would gain the benefit of these qualities and the benefit of the ring and it's qualities as well. Heck, somebody could have two bucklers, with different qualities, and the ring, technically speaking, he'd only gain the shield bonus to AC once, from the highest source, but all of the special qualities. FWIW, this would not be allowed in my campaigns.
