RIP: Ronald Reagan

For anyone who doesn't yet know, Ronald Reagan -- President of the US from 1981-1988 -- passed away today. My understanding is that the cause of death was complications of pnuemonia.

He was an uniquely charismatic man and a power leader. Whether you agreed with his positions or not, those are true.

Unfortunately, anything more said would likely be political, so I'll stop. Here's hoping everyone else keeps it clean, too.

Yes politics aside... sad day when any US President dies... I'll remember him, like many here might, for the no other reason than he was the President while we "grew up"...

Maybe that's superficial... oh I'm probably not explaining it right anyhow :) [kicks the ground]

Well, you could say he was the US President I grew up with. In fact, he was still in office when I graduated from high school in 1987.

It is truly a sad day for our nation. Be at peace, Mr. President.

RIP, Gipper. :(

As a guy who watched Alzheimer's Disease slowly deprive his Grandfather of his mind and later his life, I don't feel sad at President Reagan's passing. His decade-long battle with the disease is over, and his suffering is finally ended.

Ronald Reagan will always be remembered as "the Great Communicator." He was gifted at making people like him, even his political opponents. Despite being the President of the United States, he was a remarkably unpretentious and soft-spoken man, and had a very quick and clever sense of humor that often had attendees of press conferences and debates in stitches.

Farewell, Ronald Wilson Reagan, you will be missed.

In honor of the 40th President of the United States, for the next week his smiling face will be substituting my regular Conan the Barbarian forum avatar.

I didn't appreciate him enough at the time. I was too young and didn't care about a lot of the things he did. however, I'm glad that he has a glowing legacy.

Although he said a lot of great things, the two that I remeber best are the "shining city on a hill" speech and the "Excuse me, I'm PAYING for this microphone!"

He was tough and he believed in the dream.

His first presidential election was also the first one I was old enough to vote in.

As has been said previously, it's sad to see a former president pass, but it is good that his battle with Alzheimers is over.

Word. If you've ever watched someone sink into dementia, you can't help but breathe a sigh of relief when it's over. It's a horrible way to go.

Another non-political thing that can, and should be said about Ronald Reagan is that his and Nancy's relationship was one of the great loves of the twentieth century. The only other one that can match it was Paul and Linda McCartney, and they too are now parted by death.

I can imagine what Nancy is feeling right now. Grief, relief, sadness, joy that his suffering has finally ended, and an overwhelming desire for the media to butt out. I wish her well.
