RISE OF TIAMAT Now Available For Fantasy Grounds

Hot on the heels of the recent officially licensed release of Hoard of the Dragon Queen for the Fantasy Grounds virtual tabletop comes The Rise of Tiamat. You get the full adventure, image handouts, tactical maps, tokens, and more. The package costs $19.99, and requires that you already have one of Fantasy Grounds' official 5E ruleset modules. (Thanks to Matchstick for the scoop!)

Avert the Cataclysmic Return of Tiamat in this Adventure for the World’s Greatest Roleplaying Game.

The Cult of the Dragon leads the charge in an unholy crusade to bring Tiamat back to the Realms, and the situation grows more perilous for good people with each passing moment. The battle becomes increasingly political as opportunities to gather allies and gain advantage present themselves. From Waterdeep to the Sea of Moving Ice to Thay, it is a race against Evil. Succeed or succumb to the oppression of draconic tyranny. Win or lose, things will never be the same again.

Dungeon Masters purchasing this module can use it to run the adventure with very little prep, other than reading through the adventure in advance. The contents of the story are indexed and linked, where appropriate. Combat encounters and boxed text are preloaded and ready to drop onto maps and into the chat window with a few clicks. Nearly everything has been optimized and streamlined for ease of play online.

This Module Includes

  • the entire contents of The Rise of Tiamat adventure
  • image handouts that can be shared with players collectively or individually
  • maps containing information for the Dungeon Master (DM) only and with all locations pre-linked to story entries which may contain additional DM notes, boxed text, encounters, images and treasure parcels
  • maps with all hidden information removed and resized for use as tactical combat maps
  • tokens for many of the monsters in the module. When no token is available, a letter token is used to represent the NPC
  • XP for encounters that can be dragged to the party sheet and awarded to the players as they complete them
  • Searchable monster indexes by CR, type and in alphabetical order

Oh noes, we're being attacked by gothy emo assassins! A less frightening thing, not involving bunnies, I can't think of. No way would I be spilling my beer over that. :p

Way too much money. WAY too much, especially with Roll20 basically free and ever-expanding. Include all the 5e and PF rules in 40 dollar package, and I might give it a whirl and then buy the adventures.

You might consider looking at the $9.99/mo sub for a DM and their entire group and the $2.99 D&D Basic Rules pack for along with this or the other $20 adventures. You'd be looking at a pretty low cost with some of the data pre-loaded for the classes and races and just have to manually enter the class features not included in the basic pack. The adventure has everything it needs to run, so you only need the MM pack if you wanted all of that pre-loaded too.

You could enter everything yourself for just $9.99/mo for the DM and the group and it would have strong support for D&D fifth edition rules still -- just without everything pre-loaded.

Any battle where your player's characters spill their beer should only award half experience. Maybe we can add in a prompt after each battle that asks, "Did anyone spill their beer?"

It's funny you bring this up. I totally see where you're coming from with the emo jab, but I'm not gonna lie, this was probably one of my favorite pieces of artwork in the module and has inspired at least two encounters in my campaign. Just goes to show how widely art preferences differ from person to person, I suppose.

Quite simple. Load the program, Load the Campaign (putting you into GM Mode).

Load the program again, this time selecting "join game", and using localhost/127.0.0.1/etc to connect. This puts the 2nd instance into a player mode.

Okay, I'll have to check this again. Last time I tried to run a second instance of it, I got a window or something saying it was already running and it wouldn't load. For the sake of specifics, I'm running the steam version on a mac in a wrapper or whatever. I'm guessing it may be a limitation of either WINE or Steam, rather than the software itself.

I fall into the first use-case here, I currently use Roll20 to facilitate a hybrid game, linking my iMac .... My question is this: Is it possible to run two instances of FG on the same mac? Or do I need to have a second computer for the player view?

I run on a Mac myself. The one problem with using FG's recommended setup is that you can't (apparently) run two copies of the software from Steam. I suspect, however, that if you downloaded another copy from the site itself that you'd probably be fine. However, you'd have to follow their instructions on how to setup FG with Wineskin, and I'm not all that familiar with it.

Luckily for me, I have a very computer-savvy/laptop-heavy group, so I can just get one of my players to host the client on their machine. ;) I like your concept of a 2nd monitor, I will incorporate it myself.

Yeah, I still have my old Macbook Pro, but I was planning to sell it to offset the ridiculous cost of my new setup, haha... ah well. Good thing I absolutely love D&D and have a job...

It's a luxury item. And even then, I feel like it's a bit over-priced (seriously, at ~$200 for software, I'd expect a more manageable interface, less clunky menus, a mapping tool with at least as much utility as the free stuff on Roll20 or MapTools, the ability to add custom content...).

But if you've got the money, it's a fun thing to do! I don't regret my purchase. And the fact that the players never have to buy anything is a nice balm on the money-burn.

I really can't express succinctly how impressed I am with FG....The adventure includes prebuilt encounters that auto-roll initiatives, and auto-place the monsters on the map. And they include maps, even if the adventure doesn't...

Is this true for Rise of Tiamat? Have monsters been auto-placed on the map? Auto-rolled initiatives? Monsters scaled to map grid? Are encounters almost 'plug & play'?
