Ritual Rule Changes

Its a magical culture so no, in general, I do not have a problem with Eladrin having access to high powered magic. To me they would have the prerequisite Eladrin and be considered Elven High Magic. See, the prerequisites are maintained.

But I do have a problem with a non-wizard Eladrin taking what is obviously a totally wizard ritual. He needs to get in line as a wizard to learn it or create a similar ritual that is probably going to be higher and cost more. Or the player can talk to me and explain to me how it fits his character,it makes sense why hse should have it, adn then I might let him purchase it.

All I am saying is that while their will be Wizard Rituals, their will also be Eladrin Rituals, and Warlock Rituals, and Cleric Rituals, and Paladin Rituals, and Human Rituals and Elven rituals, and Dwarven Rituals, and Artifcer Rituals, and Neighborhood Watch Rituals and....on and on.

And if their is a Dwarven Ritual that looks very close to an Elven ritual than its not because they are the same ritual in-game, its because the two groups had the need for the idea.

If I create an Artificer Ritual feat than anybody can take it, well, anybody except those like the Wizard and Cleric who have Generalized Access to all non-special rituals. There wouldn't be anything special about the feats, just a generalized concept of who or what can have them.

And really, if my Fighter player says to me "I have been surrounded by magic so much that I figure I would probably pick up on some of its skills." To me that means that they can take the Ritual Caster feat and gain access to all but the most restricted or specific of rituals.

Then I am totally cool with this.

What I'm resistant to is: "Oh no, Harry, your fighter can't possibly do this. It's fancy, fancy wizard stuff. If you wanted to be able to do cool things, you should have picked to play a wizard like Tom over there. You stick to poking monsters with sharp objects. That's your lot in life, and if you don't like it, tough. You think we're playing this game for you to have fun or something?"

While your post is somewhat funny, it is also something that I would never do in an actual game. If a player has good reason for wanting something - and I don't mean the blanket it would be fun or cool, but a good in-game reason - then I will more than likely allow it. I think its better to be open minded to possibilities than close-minded when it comes to players and options.

That said, if there was a Ritual has in its fluff text a note that it is only tought by the Wizards of the High Tower, then only Wizards who are a member of the High Tower can learn it. If your fighter player wants to be a member, then a great and awesome adventure awaits. But it won't be as easy as "I pick the ritual, spend my whatever, I now have access to the ritual of the Wizards of the High Tower." It might be that way for a Wizard but not for most Fighters.
