Ritualist First-Timer Needs Advice

First Post
Greetings,

I'm playing a Ritual Caster character for the first time and would like some suggestions on what rituals to get. I plan to go through the list of course but would like to learn from the vets about what ones you have found to be the most useful, practical, and essential.

I'm a Level 14 lazy Warlord who is multi-classed as a Bard. For additional details about my build please refer to my other post on character optimization here (http://www.enworld.org/forum/4e-discussion/293550-character-optimization-warlord.html).

It depend a little on your campaign. I have not yet paragon with my bard or cleric, but a few rituals that I've used a few times include: Tensor's Floating Disk, Comprehend Languages, Wind at Your Back, and (should the need arise) Raise Dead.

I also found that its best to focus on rituals that are at least a few levels lower than your level because the gp cost ends up being negligible.

I've never used it but Comrade's Succor seems like it would be the most useful ritual available at first lvl. It allows you to shuffle healing surges around amonst your party members at the cost of 1 healing surge total. So if your wizard hasn't used any but your fighter is almost empty, your wizard could subtract 4 surges from himself and give 3 of them to the fighter, with the 4th one being the cost of the ritual. Multiple people can spend/benefit from the same ritual.

It really depends on the setting and how picky the DM is about light sources, but I find myself using Dark Light (FRPG) all the time. It's basically a stealthy light source that lasts all day for 30 gp.

Phantom Steed's always a staple. With your +19 Arcana you've got a 50/50 shot at water-walking speed 15 mounts for the whole party, for only 70 gp per use.

There was another thread asking this question not too long ago. Check it out here.

And the latest "complete" list, as of February, 2010 here. B-)
