Rituals in a hurry?

Perhaps a better way of accomplishing about the same result is to say ritual casting consumes both the standard action as well as the move action?

This way, powers that grant extra actions still work. (Spending an AP regains its usefulness, for example).

Well, I felt that while casting the ritual, the casting players attention should be occupied sufficiently by chanting, gestures, drawing runes, and so on that they really shouldn't be able to move. And I didn't want them to be able to use APs for standard actions because I felt that them performing the ritual but still able to bust out an attack spell was too much both from a personal balance perspective but also from an in-game narrative perspective. I just didn't like the notion that you can put the ritual magic "on hold" so to speak, while you call up other magic or do something else dramatic. The ritual itself should be the dramatic centerpiece of your character's turn.

But I felt that anything that falls into the realm of minor actions should be doable, and I especially wanted the caster to have the ability to sustain other dailies that the caster might have in place. So even though you can't move or take standard actions while ritual casting, you can still take two minor actions.

Then again action points ARE special. Imagine: The hero (call him Giles the Librarian) stands in his crudely drawn circle of runes, book in hand, shouting mystic words in a forgotten tongue while his comrades fight off the gibbering things trying to stop him. Suddenly a fighter is down, and the beasts swarm in. Giles turns around (ACTION POINT), and without missing a syllable of the chant he waves a hand in annoyance. The earth ripples, knocking the attacking monsters off their feet. Because Giles is that cool.

I think I will allow action points to be used during ritual casting.
