Robert Jordan’s eleventh book - KNIFE OF DREAMS

I have no interest in the prequel series. But that's more of a general thing against prequels than Jordan in particular. Anyway, I'm not such a devoted fan boy that I think the man can do no wrong.

GRRR.
Don't get me started on this "Prequel" Business.

"A New Spring" was originally published as a novella in the first "Legends" anthology, which I picked up, read and enjoyed. (Lots of great stuff by established authors!!!)

Then, Jordan goes ahead and REDOES the whole thing, adding hundreds of pages to an already-reasonably paced story, while the MAIN SERIES isn't even completed yet!

Needless to say, I haven't purchased (and have no intentions) of picking up the revised version of "New Spring", and I'm just barely hanging on to the main series, even though I've long since stopped caring about just about ANY of the main characters.

I mean.. can't the Dark One just win already? Or something?

Having said that, I will pick this up because I HAVE to see how it ends.
Its a Wheel.

My nightmare scenario is that its going to end pretty much where it started.

When book 12 comes out I'll get out of the library and read the last couple of pages. No way am I going to wade through the 5 books I haven't read.

Its a real shame, because the first couple of books were really good (and seemed like they were going somewhere).

The Great Hunt remains one of my favorite books. Rand as a very young, but very courageous leader. The desperate chase through dangerous territory. It just clicked for me. But since about book four, The Wheel of Time has gotten progressively worse for me, to the point where I bought one of the latest ones (can't
remember which) and couldn't get past the first few chapters.

I am in complete agreement here. I want to keep reading, I want to believe that the books are still as good as the first three were, but I just can't bring myself to do it anymore.

Even worse, women who were sensible somehow become arrogant b--'s the moment they gain power. Egwene used to be a great character. Then she suddenly gets promoted (another silly and convenient plot point, but that's another issue,) and instantly she thinks she knows better than Rand how he should behave. It's like that Great Ring has some kind of arrogance poison in it, to which no woman is immune.

Wouldn't it be cool if it turned out there was a taint on the women's side of the source as well that did exactly this, but nobody noticed. Make the male side obviously tainted so that nobody will notice the subtle taint that in the end leads to utter ruin.

I keep hoping that someday I'll get back to find out how it all ends. Most likely I'll only do it after I retire and won't feel as bad about "wasting" my time.

Here's a sad note: I don't know whether I've read Book 10 or not. I really don't. I think I read book 9, and thought book 8 meant that book 9 was going to go somewhere...and then it DIDN'T. I'll prolly pick them up to keep the collection complete and finish the series....but it's a sad, sad ending for a series that rose to become my favorite, and now is something I've lost the ability to care about.

I WANT to like the series again. I WANT to be invested in the characters again. But I don't know if Jordan can fix what has gone so horribly, horribly wrong.

I agree with Aaron.....

The "teaser" was amazing.....And I've never even LIKED Galad....

I'll finish the series, and I'll probably buy book 11 in hardback on the day it's released.....

But it HAS to be better than book 10.....I'm not a naysayer, and I've always defended the series, but SOMETHING has to happen before the last damn page of the book!!!!

It's close to release date, and I probably should go back and read 9 and 10.....OK.....Maybe 9.....Just to catch up again.....

It's sad that I read through that prequel and could not think of Galad's brothers name.....Gawayne (sp?) I believe.....

Once it's out, and assuming it's quality again, we can start a POSITIVE thread about The Wheel of Time again.....

*Please, please, please*
