Which previously-successful movie do you think they'll adapt this time? Or do you think they'll finally utilize the possibilities afforded by an alternate universe to give us something really original?

In some ways, it would be nice if they gave us a newST movie in the vein of TOS episode (albeit movie length, paced, etc). I'm tired of the continual "earth is under attack" trend where the Enterprise never really explores or leaves home, other than a quick trip to the mall and back.

However, I'd be worried that we'd get a Generations or Insurrection like flop (those 2 movies were sort of modeled after episodes rather than traditional movies).

When there was both ST TV and movies going on, I kind of liked the movies to progress the universe in a new direction. ST6 setup a peace with klingons. ST12 setup a new dynamic with Romulans. ST13 (aka newST1) setup a whole new universe.

It would be cool to have ST15 (aka newST3) represent something from their 5 year exploratory mission (and not a remake of an existing episode). Then ST4 be some new big event.

I have an irrational belief that Orci is responsible for the things I didn't like about Star Trek 2009+. Being an irrational belief, I have no evidence to back it up. So I'm irrationally displeased by this news.

I'm glad another one is being made, and I'm sure I'll see it opening week, but I've recently been revisiting ST: TNG, thanks to impulse-buying seasons 3-5 on Blu-ray, and I realize what I really want is Trek back home on television where it belongs.

When I see that name I'm getting bad vibes, too. And it's not just because of Star Trek. Any project he's been associated with, is at best medicore (imho, naturally).

This is not an irrational belief: Kurtzman and Orci are poison. They are like Lucas since the late 90s, only worse. They have destroyed everything they touch.

What are they going to remake with the next one? Don't know, but I expect it to be even worse than Trek 5!

I couldn't possibly agree more. Those names coming up on something I'm otherwise interested in turns that interest to ash pretty much immediately at this point.
