Roberto Orci to Direct ‘Star Trek 3

This is not an irrational belief: Kurtzman and Orci are poison. They are like Lucas since the late 90s, only worse. They have destroyed everything they touch.
I don't think they're poison, despite writing 2 out of 3 awful Transformer's movies -- a black blot on their resumes, if not their souls, to be sure. Kurtzman and Orci have been involved in some good television; cf. Hercules, Xena, Fringe, Sleepy Hollow.

Heck, I loved their first Trek movie, and liked the second. I do wish (parts of) the scripts were better. It's those bad parts I attribute, for no real reason, to Orci.

Basically, I just wish the studio would have brought in someone new to the current franchise. I'd like to see something different in the 3rd film, something more science-fictional, perhaps. Though I admit that might not be a reasonable hope for a Trek film meant to be a big summer blockbuster, ie the only kind a studio will actually film.

Which is why what I really want is a new TV show.

Have already tread over the Trek reboots more times than necessary.
Hercules and Xena averaged out pretty good, but not the K&O episodes.
They killed Jack of All Trades with their absolutely awful episodes.
Hawaii 5-0 reboot speaks for itself: awful drek.
Fringe: can't stand that show--makes X-Files seem like the pinnacle of rationality and scientific brilliance.
Cowboys & Aliens, Mission Impossible 3, Legend of Zorro, and Ender's Game: total wastes of time and talent
can't comment on anything else, as I haven't seen them.
