Well with the exception of Dr Who, and maybe Red Dwarf, most British series dont go more then 2 seasons (err series) anyway.

How long can you spread out the basic premise of the show anyway? Robin comes home, gets exliled and brings together a Band of Merry men, defeats the Sherrif and his lackies and wins the girl.

If you dont start introducing main characters like Friar Tuck and the others in a more active capacity soon, people will quickly get bored. They also need to move the overall story along.

I hope it lasts more then a single series, i dont see it lasting more then 3.

I can see how he would think that, I used to myself...I guess we here in the states get a distorted view since those are among the few BBC shows we end up seeing here.

Now I know it is not true, but for years I actually thought this was the case. Of course, there are a LOT of good BBC shows that I never knew existed before recently. Gotta love BBC America...

What is Sampson and Son? Do you mean Sanford & Son, the series about the junkyard owner starring Redd Foxx? If so that has nothing to do with Blackadder, although it was based on a British series, the title of which escapes me at the moment.

All in the Family was indeed based on a British series, though I can't recall the title of that either. Three's Company was also based on a British series, as was The Office, and there was an abortive American attempt to duplicate Coupling. Let's not even think about the abyssmal effort to produce an American version of Red Dwarf.
