Running JC...
I've played Heavy Gear a bit (same Silhouette rules) and playtested a few JC battles, so I'll give your questions a shot...
1. Combat runs pretty quickly, and can be quite deadly (3xArmour Value = Unit out of Commision). In JC, units have 2 actions per turn (IIRC); a unit can take more actions at a cumulative -1 to all actions per action over 2. Obviously, as one progresses in skill, it becomes more possible to take more actions and still have a reasonable chance at success.
1b - The only confusion I had with combat in JC dealt with space movement and firing (as the system uses an integrated turn sequence). The confusion had to do with facing -- I need to ask the JCML sometime about that
2 - I've made some exo-armours, and they turn out great. Try to find yourself one of the various spreadsheets out there for vehicle construciton, they help a lot. Not that it is that difficult to do it on one's own }
3 - Exo-armours are the big guys, the 'mecha', while exo-suits are more like power-armour, something one wears and is more or less person-sized.
4 - Nothing comes to mind at the moment... What kind of campaign are you thinking of running? (Military, SolaPol, traders, nomads, etc?)
