Robotech/Macross plus and now with jovian chronicals

Running JC...

I've played Heavy Gear a bit (same Silhouette rules) and playtested a few JC battles, so I'll give your questions a shot...

1. Combat runs pretty quickly, and can be quite deadly (3xArmour Value = Unit out of Commision). In JC, units have 2 actions per turn (IIRC); a unit can take more actions at a cumulative -1 to all actions per action over 2. Obviously, as one progresses in skill, it becomes more possible to take more actions and still have a reasonable chance at success.

1b - The only confusion I had with combat in JC dealt with space movement and firing (as the system uses an integrated turn sequence). The confusion had to do with facing -- I need to ask the JCML sometime about that :P

2 - I've made some exo-armours, and they turn out great. Try to find yourself one of the various spreadsheets out there for vehicle construciton, they help a lot. Not that it is that difficult to do it on one's own }:)

3 - Exo-armours are the big guys, the 'mecha', while exo-suits are more like power-armour, something one wears and is more or less person-sized.

4 - Nothing comes to mind at the moment... What kind of campaign are you thinking of running? (Military, SolaPol, traders, nomads, etc?)

I'm going to be running the free module that is on the dp9 website. Everyone is going to be exo-armor pilots going through "top gun" training school. I thought this was a good choice becouse it give battle examples that progressively get harder with notbody getting killed. Also to save time (we may only play it once or twice) everyone is neatly brought together. i have some cool ideas about adventures afterwards but i have to see how it goes.

Do you have a link where I can find the spreadsheets that you mentioned?

The first one seems to be the latest vehicle design sheet... the second is a character design sheet. The latter two are an older version of the vehicle design sheet and a weapon design sheet (that is incorporated in the v2.5 version of the vehicle sheet, I believe).

Its also well worth your while to check out the various FAQs and the like at DP9's site, both for JC and for Heavy Gear (as they share the same system, and not all the questions answered in the HG rule FAQ are listed in the JC FAQ). I was reading up on them myself last night for my own rule purposes... }:)

The intro you've chosen does sound like a good starting point... I hope your tryout goes well and you can turn it into a full campaign! I'd love to have a GM in the are who'd run a JC campaign...

I've got an unfinished website on the cultural side of playing in a macross game with Mekton:

http://www.geocities.com/arcady0/macross/

If there's interest I can finish it up.
Right now the human and Zentradi sections are done. The rest is a blank skeleton.

Those two sections though should be handy in building characters with Mekton in the Macross universe.

Also if you have a Mekton Website please join the webring:

PS - What does everyone/anyone think about the newly revealed DP9 'Secret Project'? Sounds kinda like a take on some familiar genres/games/etc...
