Okay, so I spent this past Friday and Saturday at Roc-Kon in Little Rock, AR. Please keep in mind that this is only MY HUMBLE OPINION and this was my first con experience ever. Here goes:
Short version: Roc-Kon is a very good small convention. Thumb up! I'm gonna go every year!
Long version:
Friday: My friend and I arrived late (8:45 pm) on Friday and discovered that most of the table-top RPGs had been moved across town to another location due to a last minute scheduling glitch. No matter - The Troll Lords company, a local d20 publisher, had an event etitled "Legends of Erde." A participating DM agreed to run an unscheduled game for me, my friend and a trio of Living Greyhawk fans who arrived too late as well. The scenario was good, the DM (Michael Collins) was very polished and we all had a great time.
Saturday: We went to check out the dealer room. It was smaller than I had expected but the offerings were quite varied and ranged from D&D stuff to artwork to Hentai to used general fiction books. I picked up a damaged copy of Lords of Darkness for $18.00 and my friend purchased some nice dice. Looking around we saw that the Magic the Gathering Tables were packed and everybody and their dog seemed to be having fun. We returned for the second scenario of Legends of Erde and were lucky enough to get Michael as our DM again. Again we had a blast. We organized a "pick-up" game for the evening, found an empty table and finished up 14 hours of gaming for the weekend (very respectable for a man my age).
I heard a few complaints about there being not enough DM's for Living Greyhawk on Saturday night and some sessions starting late, but in the end everyone who wanted to play D&D that night, got to play D&D. Thanks to the people that organized Roc-Kon and to Troll Lords and all those helping out with Legends of Erde.
