Rogue is too sneaky

How does the target know he's being sneak attacked anyway? Maybe it was a lucky crit, or a maneuver that adds a fistful of dice, or maybe the attacker Power Attacked for a lot. Damage is damage. "Ow, I got hit for 30, and the DM rolled a fistful of dice, I better find concealment so he can't do that again.."
"Ohh, my pancreas, I better cast darkness instead of magic missile.."

I've played this sort of character and trust me, it has plenty of drawbacks that will become apparent in the course of normal campaign play. My rogue ended up putting all his stat bumps in strength and picking up Power Attack at 12th level, just so he could play all the time instead of sitting out half the combats.

Just play it straight, and it'll work out just fine. Sneaking is far more useful for information gathering, avoiding trouble, and pre-combat positioning than for actual combat use.

I saw this in action last night. We had a rolling fight against a dragon out in the open. He spent the entire battle hiding. Once we got into the dungeon and started a fight there, he simply stayed out of range and checked for secret doors and such. It's hard to give him a moment to shine if he doesn't attempt anything worthwhile.

Not really sure what you're getting at here. I'm just trying to remove some of my ignorance of the rules. My players certainly didn't bother to tell me.

Hhhhmmmm, I've been is this sutuation. There are 2 possible ways to combat them.

Hit them with the same tactic (this isn't always viable though) and see if a player brings up something not mentioned before (also use a copy of the appropriate PC, just in case someone calls foul ;) ).

If the trick is important, have the player produce a copy of all the modifyers and circumstance for your benefit. Having it on a cheat sheet greatly aids running things smoothly (at least for me).

"The only thing my player can do is hide, and sneak attack, so I must come up with dozens of ways to counter it, so no one is ever at risk of his only trick! YES! I, the DM, WIN AGAIN!"

Silly players and their concepts. They all should just make human commoners.

Yeah! Because playing by the RULES is bad! The PCs shouldn't even have to roll dice! They should just always win!
