Can a multiclassed Rogue/specialist Wizard attempt to use a wand of (spell of specialist Wizard's prohibited school) using the Rogue's Use Magic Device skill?

Um. Why not ... ? If a plain rogue, who's never cast so much as a cantrip in his LIFE, can do it ... why would learnign a WHOLE LOT about a SPECIFIC kind of magic, suddenly remove his ability to do so ... ?

Also remember that a Specialist/Sorcerer can cast Sorcerer spells from his Specialist prohibited school... and use all the Sor/Wiz wands or scrolls as a Sorcerer.

Easy now;) I'm not saying that this should be a restriction. It came up last night over some beers and I wanted to be certain. Now I know, thanks.

Cheers

Well, as a specialist wizard/loremaster with the Use Magic Device skill, my PC can try to cast cleric scrolls with Use Magic Device, so why not prohibited spells?

The Use Magic Device skill is an entirely separate mechanic for getting magic done. If the PC is going to dedicate the time and effort to learn this other way, why forbid them the opportunities of this path?

It ain't easy. You need some serious investments of points to start working with high-level spells. Unless, of course, your DM is lame enough to allow one of those +20 to Use Magic Device items that everyone talks about.

Agreed.
Agreed.
Absolutley Agreed. No way I give any +20 Use Magic Device items out. That's like handing out items of Wizard.....

And that's enough to clear any doubt, IMHO.

Also AFAIK the Wizard's limitation is a matter of ability, not a matter of oaths or ethic/religious restriction, and therefore it would not make sense if it "overwrited" abilities from another class the PC has.
