Rogue with cloak of etherealness

First Post
I have a rogue in my game who has a Cloak of etherealness and a Ghost touch weapon. If he is ethereal can he attack things on the prime plane and get his sneak attack? If he does what can overcome this as nothing can hit him while he is on the ethereal plane except ghost touch and force spells? Give me some feedback, please.

We are unsure if he evens gets to attack anything on the prime plane, as GT weapons hit non-coporeal things.

He can't attack them; he's Etherial, Ghost Touch applies to Incorporeal (and won't actually hit something that's entirely on the Etherial plane).

What Jack said. A ghost touch weapon does not overcome etherealness. When ethereal, he cannot attack anything on the material plane and can only be harmed by Force spells, notwithstanding ghost touch weapons on either side.

What a ghost does is to move from residing fully on the ethereal plane (as an ordinary ethereal object) to existing partly on the material plane, but also its material form happens to be incorporeal. It's unfortunate that the 3.0 text for manifestation conflated the two conditions. The 3.5 text is clear:

SRD said:
Manifestation (Su): Every ghost has this ability. A ghost dwells on the Ethereal Plane and, as an ethereal creature, it cannot affect or be affected by anything in the material world. When a ghost manifests, it partly enters the Material Plane and becomes visible but incorporeal on the Material Plane.

edit: Further to what Cabral was going to say, but didn't, a fun thing to do to a ghost using a ghost touch weapon is to disarm it (no miss chance), then use its own weapon against it (no miss chance until it de-manifests, then you have a free magic weapon from the encounter).

Actually, I did say it. Then I read Jack's post... and edited mine. For some reason the "last edited by ..." tag didn't show up. Unlike the map, the forums sometimes lie. ;)

I'll have to send a ghost with a ghost touch weapon after my players and see if they think of disarming it. :D

The "Last Edited" tag seems to not show up when: 1) the post is the most recent post to the thread AND 2) it was edited within a very short period of time from when it was posted (I don't know the exact value); possibly also 3) when the person editing the post is the original author.

Edit: Oh, and do remember that ghosts get very, very annoyed when their stuff is taken away.... and they often can't be treated as a pile of hitpoints.... (does anything prevent a ghost from taking 10 on a Rejuvination roll?)

Only the DM, only the DM> (Well, I could make RAW arguements reasoning why not. You can't take a 10 under stressful situations, that seems similiar to 'live or die', and therefore I'd call it stressful)

And the DM can apply modifiers to the roll too. If the ghost has a strong enough will to come back, it will. I can easily see granting a +10 modifier if the DM thought it was appropriate!
