Re: Re: Rogue's detecting traps
Gee, if I take my time and REALLY look for these traps they go off automatically! But if I am not as careful, I can possibly avoid them? Sounds like a lazy excuse for a DM that doesn't know how to handle players that are staying within the guidelines of the rules. I don't make the traps go off automatically on a take 20. If they want to take 20 through the whole dungeon and search for traps, let them. But, since taking 20 means taking 20 times as long to search for each and every trap you can be darn sure that they won't be left alone all day while they search. Throw a few wandering monster encounters of the actual inhabitants of the dungeon at them. What, monsters can't leave rooms and wander the dungeon looking for food and water???

I let my players take 20 on their search checks, however any traps that they may find automatically trigger. This generally stops the players from searching every room in the dungeon (or wherever) by just saying we take 20 and search!
