It depends on the scenario and the mood you're trying to achieve. I'd also recommend classical or opera music for dramatic moments. Folk music is great for little quaint situations and electronic music can work well for magic-use scenes.

Wow, and not one mention of the lord of the rings sound tracks?
That's because the original question in the first post asks what, besides the Lord of the Rings soundtrack(s) are good. :)

Techno Techno Techno.

ffmusicdj, Mazedude, and AmIEvil from remix.overclocked.org. All good tunes.

DJ Micro, DJ Albatross, Transa, and assorted others provide goodness. A The Matrix style game is a hallmark of my campaign style.

I use a lot of these same ones. Add to that:
Signs
From Hell
Braveheart
Harry Potter
A few tracks from End of Days
A few tracks from Hook
Minority Report

I think it's important to look for stuff that's not too recognizable, though -- otherwise it can tend to bring players back out of the game world.

So which of these are you bringing to tonight's Cthulhu session, Josh?

Wow, I should keep track of my monthly "what music do you use for D&D" posts...

I find soundtracks are by far the best to use - soundtracks include both movie and video game. I use (just a small excerpt of my soundtracks - these are particularly good and each disc contains more than 85% usable music, and often 100%):
Baldur's Gate
Brain Powerd
Braveheart
Brave Fencer Musashi
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Conan the Barbarian
Conan the Destroyer
Cutthroat Island
Dragon Quest 1-7 Symphonies
Elemental Gearbolt
Escaflowne
Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture
Final Fantasy 1-11, Tactics
First Knight
Kull the Conqueror
Lord of the Rings I, II
Mask of Zorro
Record of Lodoss War
Tactics Ogre
Treasure Hunter G
Waterworld
Xenogears
Xenosaga
Zelda

If I have time to go home before driving over to Dave's house (sadly, I missed X2 today, and still may not leave work at 5! :() then I could bring my combined Signs/Dracula/End of Days CD on which I burned some of the best tracks from each. Most of the rest of my music is still boxed up, unfortunately.

Oh, and the Time Machine. Forgot that one; that's a beautiful soundtrack, and great for gaming. Although not for a Cthulhu game.

I you want some cheesy Sword and Sorcery Inspired music, check out a band called Rhapsody.

They are a metal band that sing about sorcerers and dragons and dungeons and all that stuff.

I think they are intending to be serious, but... I laugh every time I have listened to them.

Especially one song that has the lead singer talking something about "Entering the dark crypt of the evil sorcerer" or something like that in the intro to the song

funny :)

but appropriate (sort of...)
