Roleplaying female NPCs (DM's)

Being a girl, I pretty much always play female characters-- as a (very new) DM, though, I suspect that I probably won't have too difficult a time portraying men when I need to... I'm the only girl in the group, and I've pretty much acquired an immunity to flirting on account of being 'one of the guys' in a lot of ways. So that'll probably help me a lot when I do go to portray a male character. :) Plus I have a pretty deep, not exactly soft voice for a girl... doesn't do much for me on the rare occasions when I actually do attempt to be feminine (though I can do so for the sake of RPing a character more feminine than myself) but I can adapt pretty freely. :)

On the flip side of things, pretty much all of the guy players in my group have at some point or another played a female character-- one of them is actually running both a male and a female character and is frighteningly good at switching between them at the drop of a hat, two of them are actually RPing female characters for the campaign I'm running (though one of them's incredibly annoying and I really wish he'd just gone ahead and played a guy) and the third is playing a guy at the moment but has played a female in another campaign where I was a PC. In some cases it's a function of personality-- some people just have the right kind of personality to believably RP either gender; others have to work at it a bit more but manage to do so by virtue of great RPing skills.

This is why we have the "No Tongue" rule in our group.

(shudders, and not in a good way, then gags a bit)

Wow.

There are women in my group that I'd be happy to enforce that rule with, let alone guys.
