So... teh spam has me curious.

Anyone have experience with expensive watches and non-expensive watches, and care to share your perception of the differences?

Thanks, -- N

... What? Oh no, they've gotten you!

;)

I don't have much experience from it, but from what I've seen expensive watches are just made from expensive materials. Gold, silver, platinum, white gold, of various karats, maybe with diamonds...

Or, they're super-high-tech.

It depends. Breitling or Rolex could be made of steel (the cheapest materials for those watches, at least Breitling.) But the problem is that those are mechanical watches. Your $50 quartz watch is more accurate.

The only feature that ever interested me about crazy-expensive watches was the Rolex Sub Mariner, which is guaranteed waterproof to fifty meters...not just water resistant (like most every other watch), but waterproof.

Also, it's named Sub Mariner[/i], which is awesome...

I have a TAG HEUER - not the most expensive of the bunch but nice and water proof to 200m. Which for a diver is nice. Although, I don't see the real need with dive computers and such nowdays. They are durable and lifetime warranted which is nice. I have broken mine once and they replaced the glass and bevel ring for free. Took a bit (3 weeks) but it was free to include the shipping.

It does feel substantial when I put it on. Like a fine pair of shoes or a good suit. Its good quality and its obvious when one wears it. Put one on then put on a Timex and you'll know immediately why. Mine is a personal reward for doing something I always wanted to do, not a status symbol as 1/2 the time its not even visible when I am in uniform.

Have you ever driven a Porsche then driven a VW. The difference is obvious but not all that describable, other than the pick-up of course. Its just a superior machine, you can tell even when you shut the doors and roll down the windows. Something is just different - better.

I was supposed to get a Rolex after the Q-course but I really like the TAG better. It looks more sporty and less pimpish.
