"Roll For It"

I let the players take care of it, they usually divide things to who needs it or can use it do best effect. Then based on what items everyone got, they divide the currency between them.

We used to always divvy things up more or less fairly, which used to bug me as a player - because I love the inter-party skullduggery! However, I often wind up being one of the more wealthy PCs, because I have a habit of "Profiteering" where possible - which has surprised GMs new to my particular style of always looking for a quick buck.
"Profiteering"? How, exactly?

Do you simply take everything you can and sell it?

My players surprised me a few sessions ago by rolling off to see who got to wear the powerful artifact ring they'd discovered.
Did the worst roll "win"?

I gave a player a cursed ring once that he refused to have magically removed because it also gave him some benefits. Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact combination of powers/benefits/drawbacks.

He was playing a rogue, so I think it benefited his sneaking around and penalized group Diplomacy rolls or something. :erm:
