Roommates: A rant and request for advice

I'm certain an anthropologist or biologist could make some logical sense of it, though I think you're probably on the right track.

There's two ways I would hypothesize on this.

One, it's beneficial to the society if all women ovulate at the same time, to lessen the chance of violent competition leading to the death of members contributing to a group.

Two, it's beneficial evolution-wise, since the alpha male will impregnate more women at once, leading to stronger genetics.

On the other hand, there have been studies that suggest that women's cycles to not sync up and that McClintock's original study in 1971 was a statistical blip. Personally, I don't put much stock in it.

As a woman, I've actually seen this happen, when not on birth control. It might not happen all the time, but after living in a house with two other woman for a while we all sorta ended up less than a week of each other.

I suppose it could be the type of thing that happens only sometimes, or only when the women are related (in my situation the other two women were my mother and sister).

I've seen it happen. I had a friend who lived in an all-girls dorm, and there were weeks I was warned were a good time to stay far, far away. This was the reason she gave.

Keep this in mind too... when women live or work together, their monthly cycles tend to sync up so that they are PMS'ing at the same time. Picture it...
Not actually true, I seem to recall reading. It's just that the exact times of the months tend to fluctuate a bit over time, and since Aunt Flo's visit is for a good part of a week, there's naturally good odds for coincidental overlap. The belief that they synch up is just seein gpatterns that aren't really there.

Oh, and on topic: of course this living arrangement isn't going to work now. Godwin's law applies to housing agreements and internet discussions alike. "Hitler", indeed.

my one piece of advice:

get off of living with roommates as soon as you reasonably can. :)

"good" roommates, in my experience, are few and far between.

I think that we've messed with our cycles so much since the 1960's that a lot of women have cycle issues and don't ovulate regularly because of it, which would throw off a modern survey.

I have also worked in all-female offices and we have all been getting the Reese's Peanut Butter Cups out of the vending machine at the same time. (tip for men: RPBC are the solution to PMS. Sweet + salty = teh goodness ... give her the RPBC and run)
