I voted for Fields of Blood, because I found the system very well-suited for mass combat, as well as for running kingdoms. It was also quite easy to understand - I'm not really a math-oriented person, and Cry Havoc just didn't do it for me, sadly.

Farland

I like the Farland mass combat system.

1. It is free.
2. It is software.
3. It is easy to use.
4. It is scaleable - from tactical squad-level to massive armies.

I found problems with the software, but it was fast, which was nice. I find that the systme that you use depends largely on what you want from the mass combat. Something fast you may want something from AEG, if you want a tactical fight, then fields of blood or the miniatures handbook maybe more of what your looking for.

I would go for Fields of Blood, simply because it accomplishes more for its price and page count. You also get a pretty comprehensive realm managment system. Cry Havoc is more grounded in the core rules however, so if you want to stat 10 goblins in CH terms and be sure that is will present roughly the same challenge level to your party as core combat would, it might be the better choice.

But if you want a fun minigame that handles the 'event' aspect of combat and want something more streamlined (command and control in Cry Havoc is a bit tedius) while still providing corrallaries for everything you see in standard DnD (I tend to think it handles spells better than CH) I'd go with Fields of Blood.

The problem with Cry Havoc is that Skip Williams goes overboard on the detail.

It is a more comprehensive system than that presented in an already detailed Fields of Blood - but Cry Havoc is not terribly playable.

I DO hope those people who voted and expressed a preference have tried these systems.

I might add that Ch. 6 Mass Combat in the Miniatures Handbook is fast and playable. For most DMs, this will be all they need.

It's the only one I've tried but it worked for me. Based in the core rules, simple and fast.

Hmm... Maybe you should make seperate polls for the type of mass combat system, the poll is also tinted by the preference of the user for a certain type of mass combat system.

Tabletop or chart based.

A D20 Tabletop Mass Combat system can be very good, but if that's not what the user is looking for, then it doesn't matter how good it is.
