Roundabout - Getting Started

DMEntropy

First Post
All of you have gathered at the Golden Pelican inn. A flier has circulated about town looking for brave individuals to perform a service. The flier instructed you to seek out a man named Golkan here at the Golden Pelican on this night for more information.

Messengers Wanted

Several rugged individuals needed to deliver message. Excellent pay for successful delivery. Meet with Golkan at the Gold Pelican.

The Golden Pelican is located along the border of the market square and The Grove. It is a two story wood and stucco structure with a wood shingle roof. First floor windows are barred with wrought iron. Second story windows have heavy shutters.
The common room has several sconces holding glowing crystals. They cast soft light throughout the room. Several small and large tables are arranged around the room. The scent of spicewood is in the air. A large serving bar occupies the opposite wall. A door leads to the kitchen and larder beyond the bar. Doors to two private rooms are on the near right wall. A stairwell leads to the second floor on the far right wall.

After asking the barman and serving girls about Golkan you are each led into one of the private rooms with a table for 8. He is reported to be here shortly.

Greetings all, it seems we all share the same interest in delivering this message. Let us all get to know each other little bit over a hot meal and drink while we wait for this Golkan fellow.

A young human man walks into the back room escorted by one of the serving girls. He thanks her and orders some ale to be brought back for himself. Well worn leather armor can be seen under his priestly garb with the silver arrow of Horun the Hunter across the chest. A pendant also hangs from his neck on a leather strip necklace bearing the arrow symbol as well.

"Greetings. I am Ras Famoon, follower of the Hunt. Are you here about the message to be delivered?"

Those in the room see a server walk into the room, seemingly escorting nobody. Then you look down. Standing at the height of a child you see a young female of halfling blood. She thanks the server and stands beside the table. After a moment of thinking (and trying to peer over the table to see you more closely) she clambers onto the chair and remains standing. She looks into your eyes and smiles, "Hi. I'm Muriel. Here to deliver the mystery object?"

Ras turns to see the serving girl enter the room and is a bit puzzled when he doesn't see his ale in her hand. A brief look of surprise crosses his face when Muriel climbs upon the chair to gain the height of the "big people" in the room. This quickly is surpressed by a smile and greeting, "Hello, Muriel. I am Ras Famoon, follower of the Hunt. I too have come about this message to be delivered. Without judgement, I note that the posting asked for 'rugged' individuals?"

When the halfling girl enters the room, Jondalor pauses chewing momentarily while he curiously considers her. Then, remembering just how wrong he was about the halfling monk back in his early training he adjusts his first impression. 'Must be more than meets the eye' he finally decides, closing the matter.

Looking in comparison down the table to the hulking man who introduced himself as Janaxil, a wry half-smile fleetingly appears on Jon's face. 'Heh. Quite a varied company this is shaping up to be' he thinks.

Jon nods a reserved greeting to those seated around the table and introduces himself.
"Jondalor Salvaine. Yup, I'm here to hire on for some delivery work. Call me Jon."

Once all of you arrive a man is led into the room by the bar man. He announces, "Golkan, merchant of Pari Ka'ansa." Golkan then enters the room behind him. Golkan is a middle aged human with a paunch in his belly. He is dressed in fine clothing with several rings and a large gold necklace. He has a neatly trimmed beard and mustache. His demeanor is somewhat nervous and he speaks with a soft stutter.

"Welcome fine people! I am certain that you want to know what service I require of you and what I intend to pay." As he says this several servants enter with steaming platters of food. The aromas are quite enticing as they are arranged about the table. Bottles of wine and flagons of beer are also brought to the table. "Please enjoy. The Pelican has a wonderful chef."
Golkan speaks after waiting for each of you to begin eating, "I need you to deliver a message to my associate in the Juman valley. It is located 4 days from here to the south in the eastern range of the Bitroot mountains. We deal in furs and I need to communicate timing for our shipping arrangements. He has been in the mountains for the winter months and hopefully has a large number of good furs," he says with a chuckle. He holds up a sealed scroll, "This is the message. I will pay you 200 gold eagles for your group effort if you return within 10 days. My ship departs then for me to return to Pari Ka'ansa."

"You must excuse me for the lateness of my appearance." sounds a figure entering the door to the room. The rather tall figure cloaked in gray takes a seat at the table. As he sheds the hood of his cloak his tusks and blue fur that covers his Hobgoblin face become apparent. “Again you must excuse me for my lateness but I had some pressing family matters to attend. I understand that that you are looking for a group to deliver a message?”

Gokan greets the newly arrived hobgobin with little surprise. "Welcome, we had just begun to eat. Please sit and join us. Your family must be one of those honored by the king for their service to Kinrisar during the Abomination War?"

“Why yes actually. My family has a long and noble history, filled with battle and honor. We trace our roots countless generation to the beginnings of true civilization and the empire of Ulruz.”
