Into the Wild - For 5E.jpg

Into the Wild - For 5E from RiotMinds
  • END DATE: Thu, April 13 2023 12:00 PM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition
  • PROJECT TYPE: Sourcebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: SEK 516 + S/H for the PDF and print versions of both books
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? From the minds behind Trudvang comes the first in a series of 5e sourcebooks. RiotMinds offers Into the Wild, a 250ish page hardcover, and Withering Woods, a 70ish page softcover adventure, using the sourcebook as support for the forest campaign. This project offers a notable amount of fey and wilderness options with a focus on the environment and the potions/brews that can be crafted from it. With new archetypes, spells, survival rules, environmental rules, and more, this is a loaded and good looking sourcebook. The adventure takes you through a cursed and enchanted wood ready for your characters to practice their herbalism. If you’re looking for 5e content from publishers with years worth of experience, this campaign is worth your time.

Exit, Pursued by a Bear.jpg

Exit, Pursued by a Bear from Stephanie Bryant
  • END DATE: Wed, April 5 2023 7:01 PM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition, Fate, and various other systems
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $11 for the PDF, EPUB, audiobook, and print versions of the zine
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? The story that led to the movie, Cocaine Bear, also inspired this RPG. A bear consumed a large quantity of cocaine and… well, in this versions, there’s a lot of adventures and games born of that scenario. This zine offers six game hacks letting you play a solo adventure, an adventure that embraces a more beer and pretzels option, Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition, or Fate. The coolest part of this zine is the many formats they’re offering this project in. On top of PDF and print, there’s EPUB and audiobooks, which are a nice extra as the creators go above and beyond with this project.

This campaign offers three books for the Talislanta ruleset (The Player’s Guide, The Bestiary, and Atlas and GMs Guide) as well as another book with 5e rules. This is a fully realized world that I’ve gamed through, it’s inspiring and unique. You can play in the setting at any point during its epic history: prehistoric, fantasy, post-apocalypse, or sci-fi. Offered as three books covering rules, setting, and over 200 monsters, this is an ambitious project. Normally projects of this scope struggle, but MythCraft is paying off as the campaign is already over $100k and building as more gamers check out this option.

Polaris Gaming.jpg

Polaris Gaming
  • END DATE: Sat, April 22 2023 4:41 PM EDT.
  • PROJECT TYPE: Friendly Local Game Store
  • LOCATION: Greenwood, South Carolina
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $25 to attend their soft opening
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? This is how far gaming has come, a friendly local gaming store is coming to Greenwood, SC. Greenwood is not the suburb of a city, instead existing many miles from the nearest interstate. That statement is in no way a belittling of Greenwood; instead, this is a celebration of a FLGS coming to this town. Seeing FLGS opening in smaller towns shows the health of tabletop gaming. Polaris Gaming reached their goal already, which means their store is coming. If you’re a resident of western South Carolina between Greenville, SC and Augusta, GA, be on the lookout for your new community gaming spot.

Talislanta is one of the most unique and exotic fantasy settings ever published. Glad to see it back in print with new art and the old, elegant d20 rule system it had in 2nd edition. Anyone who loved Jack Vance's The Dying Earth, Planet of Adventure, and Cugel et al. stories will likely love this place.

If you want a preview, all the old editions from 1 to 5 are available legally for free on www.talislanta.com. The Chronicles of Talislanta (1e) is particularly recommended if you want to read the setting lore disguised as a travelogue.

Everything's Fine
More on Polaris Gaming: the town of Greenwood SC does have a 3500 student college/university there - Lander University. It's got a co-ed Bass Fishing team, so that's something. I hope they do great, having more FLGS's in college towns of ~25k population across the US would be super
