RPG Crowdfunding News – Pirates of Pugmire, The Dark Eye, Dark Trails, Hearts of Wulin, and more

Here is a sampling of ten RPG Kickstarters ending between June 14th and 20th. Some of these end during Origins Game Fair and Free RPG Day so if you’re attending either event, I recommend noting the end dates of your favorite projects. If you’ll be at Origins, don’t be afraid to stop me and say, “Hi.”

Pirates of Pugmire - A Realms of Pugmire Tabletop RPG by Onyx Path Publishing / Pugsteady

  • END DATE: Thu, June 20 2019 1:59 PM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): Dungeons & Dragons 5e variant
  • PROJECT TYPE: Sourcebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $45 + S/H for the PDF, POD, and hardcover of the book
“Contribute to help us create a traditionally printed game book featuring pirates in the Realms of Pugmire - and get it into stores. The main goal of this Pirates of Pugmire Kickstarter is to enable us to create a hardcover edition of the Pirates of Pugmire book compatible with the other Realms of Pugmire core rulebooks such as Pugmire and Monarchies of Mau. We want to create an 7" x 10" hardcover with an evocative, action-packed cover image and a Pugmire- and Mau-inspired cover design. We estimate the book to be between 150-200 pages, with a full-color interior and endpapers on high quality paper stock. Exceptional funding may allow us to add Stretch Goals that further develop the setting and add additional materials for play, including further depth to the two new playable species! Dogs have inherited the world, building the kingdom of Pugmire untold centuries after the Ages of Man were over.”

Hard Wired Island by Paul "Ettin" Matijevic

  • END DATE: Fri, June 14 2019 11:15 AM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): An original system
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: AU$58 + S/H for the PDF and softcover of the book
“A retrofuture cyberpunk tabletop RPG inspired by 90s anime. Hard Wired Island is a cyberpunk tabletop RPG with a retrofuture aesthetic, inspired by 90s media like Ghost in the Shell, Policenauts, Bubblegum Crisis, and Cowboy Bebop. It's set on Grand Cross, a space station in crisis. Corporations are corrupting it into an authoritarian monument to greed. Long-time residents are being pushed out of their neighbourhoods as the wealthy expand their territory. In the shadows cast by the corporations lurk criminal gangs, hate groups, and rogue robots. Whether you're engaging in street activism, getting dragged into corporate schemes, or fighting the corporations and their minions directly, your goal is to steer the station towards a better future before it's too late. Hard Wired Island uses a mix of old-school and new-school mechanics. Our aim is to produce a system that feels like it was made in the 90s but updated for modern play. A d6-based system where social interactions are at least as important as hacking a network or getting into fights.”

Arabian Fights: A DnD 5E Campaign Setting by One Shot Wonderland

  • END DATE: Sat, June 15 2019 7:06 AM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): Dungeons & Dragons 5e and Pathfinder

Presently, Arabian Fights is a PDF nearing 100 pages and expected to be that size at print. Your players have just survived a terrible crash in the middle of a mysterious desert. Stripped of belongings and points of reference, they see one distant spot against the horizon—with miles of glowing desert dunes in the way. What begins as a mad dash for survival quickly becomes something much more... Will they choose to save their own skin and escape at the earliest opportunity? Or will they leave their mark and unbalance a terrible, ancient rivalry of unparalleled magnitude?”

MÖRK BORG by Johan Nohr

  1. END DATE: Sun, June 16 2019 7:00 AM EDT.
  2. SYSTEM(S): An original system
  3. PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  4. MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: SEK 250 + SEK 85 US shipping for two PDFs (one English, one Swedish) and the print book and print map
A DOOM METAL ALBUM OF A GAME. Rules light. Art heavy. MÖRK BORG is blackened artpunk/osr about ill-fated bastards seeking redemption, forgiveness or just the last remaining riches of a world that is plunging ever faster to its inevitable ruin. An art book you can play. A spiked flail to the face. While MÖRK BORG is certainly a product of the OSR genre and share the same roots and foundations as many of the retro-clones, we try not to care too much about tradition or nostalgia. Emulating gaming in the 70's or being compatible with other OSR modules is not a design choice, but MÖRK BORG can do both regardless. Aesthetics are more important than being truthful to some Gygaxian heritage, this time...We will produce a beast of a book. 88 pages printed with 6 colors (CMYK+2), hardback A5 size with a soft-touch laminated cover with embossed and reliefed details, two different paper stocks, and (if we meet the stretchgoals) glow-in-the-dark ink on the spine. We’re even considering gold foiling some details in the book, but we’ll see where we end up economically.”

Dark Trails RPG by Stiff Whiskers Press

  • END DATE: Sun, June 16 2019 12:00 PM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): Dungeon Crawl Classics
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $65 + S/H for the PDF and hardcover of the book
“A standalone weird west RPG based upon the popular Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG (DCC) ruleset. The Dark Trails RPG is a game which pays homage to the popular weird West genre. It can be used as a standalone game or as the perfect complement to a growing line of products that all utilize the rules found in the Dungeon Crawl Classics (DCC) RPG. As a player, you’ll find a wealth of material that allows you to assume the role of one of 11 unique classes, with descriptive names like: the Calavera, the Bedlamite, and the Sin-Eater. As a Judge, you’ll find over 400 pages of material giving you a wealth of resources for designing and running fantastic adventures set against the haunted landscapes of an unforgiving weird West. You may be wondering about the above mentioned game that Dark Trails is tethered to...Fortunately, the Dark Master (Joseph Goodman) has granted permission to include a modified version of the DCC ruleset within the pages of Dark Trails to make it the first 3rd party published work to include the necessary rules for play. You don’t need anything other than the Dark Trails RPG to play the game aside from some dice, paper, and pencils.”

“A tabletop roleplaying game of wuxia melodrama, Powered by the Apocalypse. In Hearts of Wulin, players take the role of skilled martial artists in a world of rival clans, conspiracies, and obligations. The game emulates films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Chinese wuxia TV series like The Smiling Proud Wanderer and Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain, and Chinese martial arts novels from the second half of the twentieth century. In these tales, romance is as dangerous as a blade. Everyone has ties to factions, loves they can’t quite express, and secrets which will shake them to their core. You have forgotten this role-playing game created in France, for english and french-speakers:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/175522302/adventures-in-austerion/description
The creator has succesfully launched other crowdfunding campaigns, and is reputed for the quality of his beautiful drawings.
It relies on a mix of classical RPG rules and board game mechanisms (such as tiles, cards and tokens…), furnished with the box. More tiles with the stretch goals. Also excellent to initiate someone to RPG.
This campaign has been funded in less than 24 hours!
