RPG Crowdfunding News – Purple Planet, Veil of the Eternal Night, and more

This week’s TTRPG crowdfunding sampler covers projects that end between February 29 and March 5. The list includes the multi-publisher experiment on Backerkit, Goodman Games’ Purple Planet; nine publishers working to promote a common setting that includes crossover stretch goals. Beyond that massive collaboration, there’s a mix of 5e, Pathfinder 2e, Dungeon Crawl Classics, Savage Worlds, Mörk Borg, a convention, and more to choose from. Don’t forget, it’s Zine Month, meaning Zine Quest on Kickstarter and other locations such as Crowdfundr and Backerkit.

• WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? These projects – projects with an “s” – and what they represent – crowdfunding coordination between publishers, something we shared a press release about – deserve special recognition. Goodman Games in partnership with eight publishers plus Backerkit produced Purple Planet pandemonium. This is a series of DCC hex crawl adventures, dice, and Roll20 content, each from a different publisher, each with a different creative team, and each building on the same gonzo fantasy epic in full coordination between these groups. For its part, Goodman’s book pulls together the Purple Planet adventures that they’ve produced over the years, and they’re working with Roll20 on getting more DCC content on that platform. If you back multiple Purple Planet projects then you get additional stretch goals such as a 3d6 dice set when you back at least 3 of the campaigns. Veil of the Eternal Night: Dark Fantasy for 5e and MythCraft from Grant Mielke

• WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? This project is a three-volume grimdark fantasy adventure and setting, Veil of the Eternal Night promises over 700 pages with tons of content for two systems, 5e and MythCraft. The books include a player’s guide, Harker's Guide to Vampire Hunting, a grimdark adventure path for levels 1 to 10 (or 1 to 15 for MythCraft) with Soliloquy of Annihilation, and another adventure, this one for high-level characters, Daughter of the Shadows. With character options like playing a dhampir, a batfolk, or working as a Plague Doctor, there’s a lot of dark, vampire-themed options, all of which you’ll need as the game adds 75 new monsters and 12 boss monsters to the mix. Land of Vampires: Slipping into Shadow from Grove Guardian Press

Keeping the vampire theme going, let’s look at another game featuring vampires and 5e that mixes it up with duet play and its own campaign which carries your character through levels 1 to 10. Created as a 170-page duet version of 5e, meant for one player and one GM, you’ll enter a land of vampires among the many blood thirsty creatures and terrified townsfolk. Punk is Dead - a Mörk Borg compatible songwriting TTRPG from Critical Kit Ltd

Into this world come punks in a tour van, traveling from town to town, playing gigs, and writing songs that right wrongs. The book looks like a 7” record sleeve but it’s 90 pages of rules and monsters, enough for any punk to find something to rebel against. This is as gonzo as it gets. 400 pages for a DCC adventure and a never ending mega-dungeon that will take your characters from levels 1 through 6 as you (deep breath) chase a man that touched a god which set off a conspiracy in a paranoid world. This adventure is set in an evolving world, one where your encounters get weirder and weirder, which means its more than I can explain here, so I highly recommend checking out their campaign page. While this is a DCC adventure, this book is not affiliated with the Purple Planet project mentioned above. If you want a mega-dungeon centered on change and twists, this campaign is worth checking out.

Battlezoo Ancestries: Classic Creatures for 5E and Pathfinder 2e from Roll For Combat

If your table wants unusual character options to play reformed enemies and the like, this is a cool sourcebook to check out. But be forewarned, they’re giving away a lot with that freebie, so it’s worth taking a peek, but will make backing hard to resist.
