RPG Crowdfunding News – Vaesen, Fantasy Advent Calendar, Wild Shapes, and more

This week, I look at RPG Kickstarters that end between December 22nd and 30th. During the holiday season, the number of quickstarters (two week campaigns) and longstarters (two month campaigns) become a larger percentage of the overall offerings. As such, I’m focusing on quickstarters since the longstarters give me time to cover them.

WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? ENnie Award winning artist Johan Egerkrans is illustrating another pair of books for the Vaesen RPG. This time, Johan is working with Graeme Davis to bring the vaesens of the British Isles to your gaming table. In the Vaesen RPG, you play an individual in Scandinavia with The Sight, the ability to see traditional spirits and monsters called vaesen. In Vaesen RPG – Mythic Britain & Ireland, you’ll get information on the British Society that deals with vaesen, information on London, new vaesen, and more to take your game to England. In Vaesen RPG – Season of Mystery, you’ll find four adventures, each tied to a different season. I play this RPG in my home campaign and can’t recommend it enough. If you’re interested in trying out Vaesen, the crowdfunding campaign offers a backer level with the new books as well as the core rulebook.

WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? If you want a digital advent experience, this is a fun idea for a campaign. You pledge as little as £2 and each day throughout the holiday season, this campaign offers a backer only post sharing an adventure. At the end of each post, you get a choice to vote on. Each day, the votes are totaled and the results are posted along with a new bit of the holiday adventure and another vote. When the campaign is complete, you’ll have participated in the full adventure and, if you pledged at a high enough level, a PDF copy. If you’re looking for a simple holiday experience, this is a fun option.

If you’re a superfan of the 5e druid class’ wild shape ability, or want quick reference for animals as pets or familiars, this project provides cards for each animal complete with stats. The cards list everything the DM and player could need from CR to stats to abilities to what level a druid needs to be to use this form. The base deck offers 86 beast cards while the expansion deck provides many more beasts (83 as of this writing) plus some other options.

Players wear cyan tinted glasses meaning they can’t see key GM info. To visualized this product, watch the video as it shows what this looks like with the glasses on and off.

While the adventure and the printable handouts are $5, if you just want the adventure, it’s $1, and for $1, this is a stout amount of content.

Done on A2 sized paper, these are nice black and white maps with the random tables drawn on the margins. If you’re looking for well-drawn, low cost maps, this isn’t a bad offer.
