RPG Crowdfunding News – Vulcania, ADOM, The Savage Sign, Bone Marshes, and Many Mini-Reviews

This week I’m looking at Kickstarters that close between February 8th and 14th. By my count, that’s 17 projects, too much to cover in full here. As such, I’ll touch on the larger RPGs and end with a few mini-reviews to cover as much ground as possible. Let’s get into it!

RPG RULESETS

The ADOM (Ancient Domains Of Mystery) Roleplaying Game by Thomas Biskup

“Fight the forces of Chaos & Corruption in a fast & furious fantasy tabletop RPG with breathtaking art and an old school soul! This crowdfunding campaign strives to release the ADOM pen & paper roleplaying game in two manuals (Player's Handbook and Gamemaster's Guide), as digital and/or print-at-cost rewards. Welcome to the wondrous Ancient Domains Of Mystery. The ADOM RPG is based on the computer game ADOM, one of the biggest five ancient rogue-likes and the only one still in active development by the original creator. ADOM caused hundreds of thousands of players over the course of over 25 years to lose countless heroes to the many dangers in the dark, cavernous dungeons littering Ancardia. A few brave and lucky souls managed to secure a victory either by defeating the Lord of Chaos and bringing peace and prosperity back to the world, or even usurping his position and declaring themselves a God. The Player's Handbook will feature all 12 races (dark elves, drakelings, dwarves, gnomes, gray elves, high elves, humans, hurthlings, mist elves, orcs, ratlings, trolls) and the 22 classes (among them chaos knights, mindcrafters, duelists, wizards, elementalists, necromancers, assassins, priests and many more) available, as well as how to play and progress them as their characters grow in power and unlock more abilities unique to their class and race. The book will have over 300 beautifully colored pages filled with amazing artwork. The Gamemaster's Guide contains extensive background information on the world of Ancardia, its monsters and minions of both Chaos and Order. Here you will find everything you need to run your adventures - no matter if your party is delving a dungeon in search for treasure, traversing the wilderness or even the high seas. The book will also have over 300 pages featuring gorgeous artwork.”

Regardless, Ray reached out (as did other creators and companies – you can read about it here) to contribute his time to help Jeremy out. Lending a hand can help build community in RPGs, and I want to thank Ray for his contribution.
“What would you sacrifice for power? Be the dragon and roar in this tabletop RPG corebook for the Modern RPG Universe! Lex Draconis is the latest entry into the Modern Universe that allows you to play the traumatized and dangerous dragons in modern Earth. Lex Draconis is a standalone corebook designed for use in the same setting as Modern RPG but stands alone as its own playable game that asks the question: What would you sacrifice for power? Lex Draconis is a game about dragons living in the modern world who must balance their nearly-divine thirst for power with their mortal lives. The game takes inspiration from American Gods, Vampire: The Masquerade and The Eddas. It can be used in a number of different story styles: Draconic Conflict, Personal Struggles, Quests, and Defending What's Yours. The core Lex Draconis system uses the familiar Pathfinder d20 system under the Modern RPG rules changes. This Lex Draconis book is planned as an 8.5 x 11 hardcover book with approximately 300 to 375 pages with full-color interior art.”

Hiya! I'm a contributor to The Savage Sign and I just wanted to pop in and let people know a few basics: the Savage Sign contains support for the newest edition of Savage Worlds, the Adventure Edition ("SWADE"). it includes, among other things, my modern super hero setting PANTHEON, a steampunk fantasy set in revolutionary France called REVOLUTION and a post apocalyptic horror setting called VIRULENT. there's also fiction and some great short adventures ("Savage Tales") and other articles. It is also completely gorgeous: Sigil Entertainment creates amazing art and layout like you've never seen. The Savage Sign is intended to be a quarterly release in print and PDF, with each issue getting independently Kickstarted. If you have any other questions, I will do my best to answer them.

I can see that, especially as many of them come from the same DNA/lineage/style. But there are many good OSR games out there, by authors who are not problematic that it may be worth giving a look. There is a degree of saturation though, I agree.

Hi!

I can see the point owning more than two dozen OSR games myself ;-) We just can promise you that this game is the graphically most appealing OSR game you will be able to own right now. And it offers a lot more content than many games (36 levels, skill system, corruption system, 22 classes, 12 races).

Additionally it is not just yet another attempt to rephrase the Goode Olde Rules(tm) we all know but really takes a fresh view on old school gaming by combining an improved version of 5e's advantage/disadvantage system with the fast & furious fun of old school gaming.

You can find more infos at https://www.adom-rpg.com

We're talking 150 Euros + shipping for the two color hardcovers. That's quite an investment for another OSR game. I really think you need a lot more previews and examples of what makes this game special. And I say this as someone normally not that interested in OSR games.

ADOM is going to cost 50 euros for one book just to send you over to Hulu where then you actually pay for the book and shipping? Whoever is your marketing guy or came up with that idea should be fired. Who spends that kind of money for an OSR book?
