RPG Crowdfunding News - Magical Kitties Save the Day!, The Spy Game (5e), Delayed Blast Gamemaster,

This week’s column looks at a number of RPG Kickstarters that end between August 9th and the 15th. I’m experimenting with a format where I focus on RPGs like The Spy Game and Magical Kitties Save the Day!, and close out with quick hits for RPG-related projects like dice, videos, cards, paintings, and more. Let’s dive in.

Delayed Blast Gamemaster #2 by Phil Reed

  • END DATE: Fri, August 9 2019 5:13 PM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): System neutral
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $10 with free US shipping for the PDF and print versions of the zine
Delayed Blast Gamemaster #2 is a [as of this writing] 36-page, saddle-stitched, 5.5-inch by 8.5-inch B&W printed zine. If you're familiar with my earlier RPG work -- either the D20 System material I created over a decade ago or the card decks I took to Kickstarter last year (Dungeon Challenge Cards, Outdoor Encounter Cards, Outdoor Encounter Cards 2) -- then you know what you can expect from this second issue of Delayed Blast Gamemaster: Page after page of concepts, ideas, and inspiration that you can adapt, expand, and make your own. What you will not find in Delayed Blast Gamemaster: Dedicated game rules and an excessive number of details that obstruct your own needs. Everything packed inside the zine is intended to get your creative juices flowing and give you a starting point when sitting down to plan an RPG session. And if something I've written is in your way . . . trash it! Make it your own! What do I know?”
Break Kickstarter: Twelve Hundred Words by Whimsy Machine Media

  • END DATE: Sat, August 10 2019 2:59 AM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): An original system
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $5 plus $5 US shipping for the PDF and print versions of the game
“An illustrated autobio collection of 200-word analog RPGs about mental health. This campaign page is also a separate play-by-post RPG. Twelve Hundred Words is a series of five tiny tabletop RPGs; each one is exactly two hundred words and then all the other words in this 12-page zine add up to exactly the titular value. Despite their particular length, these games were not submitted to the 200 Word RPG challenge. You see, I was too anxious to pick which two of the five I had written to submit and then the deadline came and went. These games represent, in the abstract, my experiences with having OCD and Anxiety. The five games included are: You Have Many Thoughts, and Your Thoughts Beget More Thoughts wherein your inspirations, goals, and anxieties spiral out of your control, Upon Thy Bardsong wherein action and conflict are resolved with singing, Deceiviest wherein you lie to others and to yourself, Love, Foundational wherein you can only act on love and its ties, and All A Game wherein anything and everything can be made into a game.”

Flashback RPG: A Roleplaying Game About Changing History by Flashback

  • END DATE: Sun, August 11 2019 7:00 PM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): An original system
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
Flashback is a narrative driven, skill-based RPG set in an original Steampunk/Fantasy world that rewards players for weaving a detailed backstory and making choices that are consistent with their character's motivations. Flashback is a next generation Roleplaying Game with simple, fun and innovative rules, where players develop their character by adding to their backstory and building personality traits. The key difference between Flashback and other RPGs is the eponymous advancement system: using storytelling techniques inspired by TV and film ‘flashbacks’, players reveal events and characters from their past to enhance their skills and abilities in the present. This makes every situation an opportunity for roleplaying and encourages interesting and complex characters to develop through gameplay. Players are rewarded for being creative and engaging with each other - not just the GM. Flashback is a game for players who love D&D but want their game to have a stronger focus on roleplaying, character growth and storytelling.”

| BLACK | RED | WHITE | Nonexistent Games by NDP Designs (Nathan D. Paoletta)

  • END DATE: Tue, August 13 2019 12:33 PM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): Original systems
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebooks
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $60 plus $15 US shipping for PDFs and print versions of all three games
“A series of three existential, experimental games inspired by color and dreams. They don't exist yet. I trust you. Do you trust me? BLACK will be a troupe-style game that uses live action techniques and movement through physical space to shape a prompted investigation into a disruptive life event, and the discovery of how to move on. RED will be a scenario-based game that uses tight time management and physical object play to drive quick decision-making in volatile situations, and then explore the impact of those decisions on relationships to others and to the self. WHITE will be a collaborative game that uses silence, individual movement and physical touch to ritually shape the context of the moment, discover the challenges inherent to the context, and resolve those challenges in unexpected and satisfying ways in order to find closure.”

The Barbarians of the Ruined Earth by DIY RPG Productions

  • END DATE: Wed, August 14 2019 10:04 AM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): The Black Hack (1e)
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $45 plus S/H for the PDFs and print versions of the book
Barbarians of the Ruined Earth is a weird post-apocalyptic fantasy setting inspired by Thundarr the Barbarian. Throw in a healthy heap of Mad Max: Fury Road and a little Pirates of Dark Water and you’ve got yourself a Saturday Morning Cartoon Stew fueled by heavy metal! The players take on the role of heroes (or maybe some feisty brigands or profiteers), wandering the Ruined Earth defeating evil Sorcerers, beating the crap out of mutated frog-men, bashing some raider skulls, or wandering through the stinking ruins of an Ancient Earth space shuttle hanger looking for bits of Stupendous Science! Barbarians of the Ruined Earth utilizes the awesome rules-lite The Black Hack system (1st edition). You do not need to purchase The Black Hack rules to play this game (although I encourage supporting David Black as he is a delightful chap and created these fun rules).”

Inspire: an RPG of godly competition by Tyler Omichinski

  • END DATE: Thu, August 15 2019 4:34 PM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): An original system
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: CA$10 plus CA$10 for US shipping for a print copy of the book
“An exploratory ancient era GM-less RPG where you each play as powerful spirits trying to become Gods. In Inspire, you play a spirit. The kind of thing that may one day become a god. Those other people around the table with you? Maybe they're going to end up being on the same pantheon as you. Someone needs to be at the top of this pecking order though. That's what you're going to find out as you shape the first generations of this community, each spirit trying to be the one who saves the day, and ultimately become the head of your pantheon. We're making a creative & indie style RPG! One where there's no set DM! Creative use of playing cards and making doodles with other players. It draws on inspirations from a few of my favorite out there indie games including Quiet Year, Legacy: Life Among the Ruins, and so many more!”

I backed The Spy Game and look forward to getting it so i cane bring my old modern game back.
I like the new-ish format, Egg. Give me the games baby. The Spy Game looks really good, but I have so many games on the shelf I'll never run.

Spy game? Who cares about another spy game? We have magical kitties coming out!

Little more seriously, magical kitties does sound like fun, and a great family rpg. Fate's Secret of Cats is awesome. Magical Kitties seems more geared toward kids.
